Lily Allen confessed she has booked herself a first class while her young daughter is sitting back in economy for an upcoming flight to London.

The singer admitted she had chosen to sit apart from her 12-year-old while speaking to her childhood pal Miquita Oliver on their BBC podcast Miss Me?

The 38-year-old explained she was returning to London for her friend's birthday with her daughter Ethel but the pair were not sitting together, the Mirror reports.

She told Miquita, who celebrates her 40th birthday on Thursday: "We are flying to London today to come and see you for your birthday. I'm going in first class, she's going in economy."

"You know what that is?" Miquita as Lily joked: "Selfish?" Miquita continued: "The circle of life. That baby is now coming to London because you live in New York for my 40th birthday, which we are having at the end of the road we grew up on."

The singer has two daughters Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose

Lily said: "There's a trend at the moment on social media of people defiantly saying that they won't give up their seats for children on aeroplanes," to which Miquita agreed: "Fair enough. Why would you give your seat to a kid if you paid for it? It's not like a train."

However the Smile singer argued that airline passengers should be more mindful of families who haven't been seated next to each other.

She said: "Quite often when you're a big group the airline will separate the seats. You'll get to the airport and they'll tell you your child is sat [away from you] and so when you get on the plane you have to ask people if they don't mind moving so you can sit next to your children.

"Obviously it's inconvenient for everybody involved but I find it fascinating that it's now become something that gives you clout on social media when you're like, 'A mum came up to me and asked me to move and I told them to f**k off.'

"Is this what we've become? Well done, you've made a family sit apart from each other."

The pop singer pointed out that some families might not have had the opportunity to book seats in advance and that people should learn to be "a bit nicer".

Laughing, she added: "Says me who's putting myself in first class while my child is alone in the back of the plane. I don't want to sit with my kid."

Lily married Stranger Things star David Harbour back in 2020

Lily shares her two daughters, Ethel Mary, 12 and 11-year-old Marnie Rose with her ex-husband Sam Cooper.

Despite her love for her kids, the singer previously admitted that her children "totally ruined" her music career but added that she doesn't mind as they "complete" her.

The girls were born after several tragedies for the singer with Lily experiencing a miscarriage in 2008 with her former partner Ed Simons followed by the stillbirth of her son George in November 2010.

George was born six months into her pregnancy after the singer contracted a viral infection.

Speaking about the aftermath of her son's stillbirth on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, she said: "I went into trauma and I don’t think I’ll ever really recover from that.”

Lily remarried to Stranger Things star David Harbour in 2020 during an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas.
