American Forests' president and CEO Jad Daley recently released a peer-reviewed article in Frontiers to set the record straight about #Reforestation. 🌲 The article discusses how reforestation can combat climate change while highlighting the essential forestry practices needed to ensure these new forests can thrive in changing climates. (Trees can't fix climate change alone, but they're a big help.) 🌳 It also shows how reforestation can support other important goals like #biodiversity, moving away from having to choose between one or the other. 🌲 Jad also talks about the role of various forest products in the #Forests4Climate movement and how reforestation ensures we maintain ample forest resources, from untouched old growth to actively managed areas. (Wood is a longstanding sustainability solution.) Read it here: https://lnkd.in/dekC5V4F

We lead the movement to reforest America, from cities to large, forested landscapes.
About us
Founded in 1875, American Forests is the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the U.S. Its mission is to restore threatened forest ecosystems and inspire people to value and protect urban and wildland forests. In the past 25 years alone, American Forests has planted nearly 50 million trees in more than 1,000 high-impact forest restoration projects. These projects have restored hundreds of thousands of acres of wildlife habitat, protected vital watersheds and sequestered millions of tons of greenhouse gases. American Forests is also one of the nation’s leading advocates for expanding urban tree canopy and green space, and a key funder of urban forest initiatives that have transformed communities across the country. We recently sat down with our friends at the Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests to learn more about their work in Hawai'i! The Akaka Foundation cares for Hawaiian forests and advances forest stewardship through a blend of traditional and modern conservation techniques. By collaborating with students, community members and other organizations, they share this knowledge and grow understanding of the importance of native forests. One of their standout programs, Pilina ʻĀina, is focused on nurturing deep connections with the land. By collaborating with the USDA Forest Service Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Pilina ʻĀina, offers career development, training and hands-on conservation experiences for students and teachers. All throughout Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander #AANHPI month, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite moments from our conversation as well as highlighting the incredible work they are doing to preserve and protect Hawai’i's land and culture. Stay tuned!

🌳💼 Throughout the past year, our collaboration with the Forest Service has been pivotal in the restoration and conservation of our forests. Through a $20 million agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, we're undertaking an ambitious journey to scale climate-adapted reforestation and help address a 4-million-acre backlog of burned and damaged forests. Activities under this partnership include developing region-specific climate-informed reforestation action plans, engaging communities, expanding workforce opportunities and more. Together, we're making significant strides to restore and preserve our forests. Support our efforts today here: https://bit.ly/3UAyCey..

Healthy forests are important to reach our goals in the fight against climate change, but as our own Kendall DeLyser says in POLITICO Pro's newest article: "We can't meet our carbon goals on the backs of our forests alone, but we definitely can't do it without them."
