In this first of the employee spotlight series for #AAPIHeritageMonth, Sahatsawat Butsatum shares about his family and traditions below ⬇️ 🧬What is your AANHPI heritage and how has it shaped the person you are today? As a Thai immigrant who moved the United States about 10 years ago. Thai cultures and customs have shaped how I carry myself as well as my personality. I also maintain a passionate love of Thai foods and cooking. When I moved to the U.S., it was a challenge to blend in. After some time, I realized you should be yourself, think for yourself and not base your self-worth on acceptance by others. This is the greatest lesson that I have learned in my life -- embrace who you are and do not fear to be different. 🍜What are some of your favorite traditions from your heritage? My favorite Thai tradition is making Thai food. When I was growing up, my family always loved cooking, so the passion of cooking has been passed on to me. We also like to try to visit a local Thai restaurant to get some food and listen to stories from the restaurant owner. It is incredible to hear many stories about their journeys to be here. Each Thai restaurant has a unique story, and it has a cultural identity in their respective community. 🏆Who in the AAPI community has inspired you most? It is my mom. She taught me to be who I am today: Be independent, humble, respectful, and care for others. I would not be here without her support, determination, strength, sacrifice, and love. Becoming an engineer is one of my biggest gifts to her so she can be proud of me. 💪What is the project you're working on, either personally or professionally, that most excites you? I have a goal of visiting 50 countries before I turn 50! I grew up on three continents (Asia, Europe, and North America) while my family served in the Armed Forces. I got an incredible opportunity to travel to many places and keep continuing until today. So far, I have traveled to Thailand, Laos, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Next stop: Singapore! Still more places to go, and I am taking recommendations! If you ask about most favorite place to visit so far, it will undoubtedly be Tokyo, Japan. Travelling boosts happiness, openness, and satisfaction. It does really open my new views, ideas, and perspectives wherever I go. 🤝What's one step you've taken to promote a more inclusive workplace? My best way to promote an inclusive workplace is food. Food is always bringing people together and it is not different here. My co-workers and I routinely plan several cultural lunches together to experience different cuisine, especially Asian Cuisine. This is the best way to promote culture and team bonding as well. If you have never tried Thai food, I suggest: Thai Basil Fried Rice (as common as hamburger is here), Thai Iced Tea (good on a hot day), and the classic Pad Thai (with Peanut Sauce).

Ready!!! We installed the first turbine at the Baltic Eagle #offshorewind farm in the German Baltic Sea 🌊. A new milestone in this large renewable project, a joint venture with our partner Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), the #RenewableEnergy powerhouse of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 🤝.   Working in partnership with Vestas, the remaining 49 wind turbines will now be transported to the offshore construction site in the coming months and then installed using the jack-up vessel Blue Tern owned by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier 🚢.   The CEO of Iberdrola Deutschland, Felipe Montero, emphasizes: "My special thanks go to the responsible teams for their tireless efforts. Thanks to the support of Vestas and our partner Masdar, we are confident that we will successfully complete what so far has been an outstanding construction campaign. With the commissioning of Baltic Eagle, the second offshore wind farm in our Baltic Hub, Iberdrola Deutschland continues its growth path”.   Husain Al Meer, Director, Global Offshore Wind at Masdar, added: "We are delighted that, together with Iberdrola and Vestas, we have taken this significant step toward making the landmark Baltic Eagle wind farm a reality. Baltic Eagle will provide clean, renewable power to hundreds of thousands of homes, reducing carbon emissions and supporting Germany with its energy transition. We look forward to seeing the project come to life over the coming months, delivering tangible benefits to the local community and setting a precedent for sustainable energy solutions”. "It is a special moment to see the first Baltic Eagle wind turbine installed. It reflects how all parties involved support Germany's clean and safe energy and offshore wind goals in the Baltic Sea," says Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe. "Vestas is proud to be part of this project and our thanks go to our partner Iberdrola for the trust in our technology and the close and productive co-operation since the beginning of this project".   With a production capacity of 476 megawatts (MW), Baltic Eagle will supply around 475,000 households with renewable energy from the end of 2024 and is an important part of Iberdrola's so-called Baltic Hub in the German Baltic Sea ⚡. Let’s continue driving the global #EnergyTransition with facts!

What a day! 💡🤝⚡ Ideas, collaboration, and inspiration were on the agenda yesterday at our seventh #Innovation Forum, titled “Transformative Collaboration." The day featured some of our most innovative approaches to accelerating the country’s #cleanenergy transition in both our networks and #renewables businesses. The event was kicked off by Jaquelin Cochran, director of the Grid Planning and Analysis Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), who gave the keynote describing how NREL's research is planning for increased #renewableenergy generation across the United States and potential solutions for the challenges associated with #decarbonization. Other partners who joined the event were Greentown Labs, SeaDeep, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Massachusetts, and University of Connecticut. “Innovation is key to developing the solutions needed to advance the clean energy transition,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. “However, we know that decarbonization cannot be accomplished through our efforts alone. The Innovation Forum is an opportunity to bring together our many partners—including top universities, national labs and incubators—to drive collaboration forward. The innovation displayed today will help us improve reliability across our operations, expand access to renewable energy, and increase access to cost-efficient, clean-energy technologies for our customers.” Learn more: https://ow.ly/NEOO50RAriG

Now in its eighth year, the #AvangridFoundation’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program has given a total of more than $650,000 in grants to wildlife centers nationwide. In February, we announced our 2024 grantees, which includes 15 organizations across 14 states. Today, we're proud to highlight one of our grantees, the National Marine Life Center (NMLC) in Massachusetts. Founded in 1995, the NMLC is an independent, non-profit organization that rehabilitates and releases stranded marine mammals and sea turtles in order to advance science and education in marine wildlife health and #conservation. "We are delighted to be a recipient of an Avangrid Foundation award," said Connie Merigo, NMLC's president and executive director. "This grant will support our important work saving sick and injured seals and endangered sea turtles, and to educate the public on the importance of a healthy ocean. We look forward to working with the Avangrid team over the next year to steward the precious marine life in our oceans."
