A decade ago, we established the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School to collect empirical data on FinTech and digital finanical services (DFS) to inform market development and evidence-based regulation and policymaking. As #DFS continues to grow especially in emerging markets and developing economies, it is more important than ever to have reliable, time and robust data from both demand-side and supply-side to underpin decision-making and track the progress of finanical inclusion. Launched in 2009 by the International Monetary Fund, FAS (Financial Access Survey) is a supply-side dataset on access to and use of finanical services aimed at supporting policymakers to measure and monitor finanical inclusion and benchmark progress against peers. To reflect the increasing digitalisation in the market place, the FAS is also expanding its data coverage to mobile money, p2p lending and equity-based crowdfunding through a pilot study. Therefore, it is particuarly exciting for me to participate in the second FAS Advisory Group meeting in Washington D.C. at the IMF Headquarters and to explore collaborative research opportunities. I thoroughly enjoyed the stimulating and engaging discussions chaired by Bert Kroese and expert inputs by fellow advisory group members such as Thorsten Beck Jean Pesme Sophie Sirtaine Magda Bianco Smita Aggarwal Cheng Hoon Lim Krista Jones Baptista Helen Walbey Samar Hasnain Qamar Saleem and staff from the Statistics Department of the Fund. It was also a previlage to present some of the lessons learned and insights from the CCAF's FinTech market and regulatory data collection efforts since 2015, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The World Bank Asian Development Bank Institute and Inter-American Development Bank etc. It was also a great pleasure to catch up with friends of the CCAF at the IMF including Parma Bains and Dmitry Vasilyev and visit our long-term partners and collaborators such as Harish Natarajan and Ana Fiorella Carvajal at the The World Bank and the IFC - International Finance Corporation on the same trip. Many thanks to the Bank of England for the kind invitation to participate in this stmulating and engaging workshop, focusing on innovation in Financial Market Infrastructure (FMI). As ever, the 10-year anniversary edition of the Innovate Finance Global Summit had been a blast! Many congratulations to Janine Hirt Louise Smith Adam Jackson and their amazing team. The highlights for me was the Open Finance Roundtable and a workshop facilitated by Department for Business and Trade and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office between the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School and Chile & Argentine Central Bankers, Regulators and Policymakers. Led by Alan Ainsworth, our Lead in Open Finance and Keith Bear, our Fellow specialises in Digital Assets, we dived into topics such as open banking, open finance, digital ID, crypto assets, stablecoins and CBDCs. We look forward to continue supporting regulators and public authorities across LAC on regulatory, supervisory and infrastructure innovation!
