About us
PLOS is a nonprofit, Open Access publisher empowering researchers to accelerate progress in science and medicine by leading a transformation in research communication. We’ve been breaking boundaries since 2001. We propelled the movement for OA alternatives to subscription journals. We established the first multi-disciplinary publication inclusive of all research regardless of novelty or impact. And we demonstrated the importance of open data availability. Our work isn’t done. Join us as we continue to advance Open Science for researchers and readers.

We are proud to support the Open Science Monitoring Initiative (OSMI), a new collaborative, global initiative bringing together institutions and individuals involved in #OpenScience for the purpose of encouraging the adoption of shared principles for open science monitoring and promoting their practical implementation. We were honored to share our experience from developing Open Science Indicators to the initial OSMI workshop in 2023 and to participate in the discussion among research organizations, policy-makers, technology providers, and Open Science advocates on the future of open science monitoring. We look forward to continuing our work with OSMI. For a full overview of the initiative please visit https://plos.io/4cVT3cV.
