Meet an FPFer! Today we’re introducing you to Amanda Browe, Director of Membership! Quick Facts about Amanda: 🖥️ Favorite part of working with FPF? I greatly appreciate the flexibility that FPF provides staff, with an emphasis on work-life balance and a work culture that fosters engagement and passion in the work that we do. 🧁What are your favorite hobbies/interests? I've loved to read since I was a child, enjoy visiting libraries and bookstores around the world, and my favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi. I also greatly enjoy baking- while my baked goods may not always be camera ready, they are tasty!  🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Most memorable city you've visited? Italy will always be a favorite destination, but my most recent standout location was the Scottish Highlands. The landscape is absolutely gorgeous, the people are friendly, and I loved the readily accessible tea and scones!

#NEW: Immersive technologies offer exciting ways to engage with the world but may also create opportunities for new, potentially more effective ‘dark patterns’ or manipulative design. A new FPF blog provides insight into how ‘dark patterns’ might look in immersive environments, how such practices are regulated, and how to avoid them when building new products. The blog explores a range of different manipulative and deceptive design practices, including: ➡️Using lighting, interface design, or data about where a user is looking to hide or obscure relevant information ➡️Digitally presenting a product or service in a misleading way ➡️Altering or editing elements of the physical world with digital content Read the full blog by Jameson Spivack to learn why organizations deploying immersive technologies need to take proactive steps to ensure their new products and services are developed in a way that protects against harmful effects on privacy, security, safety, and competition.  https://lnkd.in/gnE9zrwp

CEO @ Future of Privacy Forum | Advancing Responsible Data Practices

Change is coming quickly this year in the digital advertising industry. Already, privacy regulators have been more critical of mainstream advertising business models, and large platforms have begun significant steps to limit access to advertising-related data about their users, including the deprecation of cookies. In response, many new solutions have emerged, ranging from privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), to contextual advertising, first-party data, and “on-device” or client-side processing. How should policymakers and practitioners evaluate these solutions and their many trade-offs? Join FPF CEO Jules Polonetsky and Stacey Gray, Senior Director for U.S. Policy, FPF, for a conversation about the regulatory landscape, platform changes, and a comparison of the new trends in technologies and strategies that have emerged. We’ll go live at 12 pm ET! If you’re interested in learning more about changes to the advertising landscape before the event, read Stacey’s analysis and FPF’s Proposed Framework here: https://lnkd.in/erbshndM

BREAKING: Last night, on April 24, the Connecticut Senate passed SB 2, marking a significant step toward comprehensive AI regulation in the United States. This comprehensive, risk-based approach has emerged as a leading state legislative framework for AI regulation. At a high level, the bill would:  ➡ Regulate developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems, i.e., those used in rendering consequential decisions regarding education, employment, financial or lending services, healthcare, or other important life opportunities. ➡ Require developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems to adhere to a duty of reasonable care to avoid algorithmic discrimination against individuals. Developers and deployers would also have role-specific requirements to provide transparency, conduct impact assessments, and maintain risk management programs. ➡  Create individual rights, including the right to notice before a high-risk AI system is used, and if an adverse consequential decision is made, the right to an explanation of how the high-risk AI system came to its conclusion, and the right to appeal the decision for human review. Individuals are also empowered to exercise their existing data privacy rights under the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA).
