The war in Ukraine has restricted media activities in the country, making it a dangerous place for journalists to work. Journalists from RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service have encountered many threats yet they remain committed to telling the stories of war to the world. One of the few reporters granted access to cover combat on the front lines is RFE/RL photojournalist Serhiy Nuzhnenko who ventured deep into the Donbas to document a weary Ukrainian artillery unit as it battled Russian forces.
