I so appreciate Katelyn Jetelina's newsletter, Your Local Epidemiologist. She's brilliant and has been an incredible voice for plain, simple, actionable public health communication. She has made sense of complex health information for so many people. In today's edition, she writes: "If you asked me— a random epidemiologist— four years ago the biggest lesson learned during a pandemic, I would have never guessed my answer today: Scientific communication. Not only the need but the how and what. That’s because I was never trained in it. Many (if not all?) public health practitioners are not. It isn’t a core competency in our field, which became painstakingly apparent during our biggest test. It lost decades of trust." It's astonishing that communication hasn't been a core competency for public health. How else can you possibly reach the public that is literally in the name of the discipline? Communications IS A PUBLIC HEALTH STRATEGY! (https://lnkd.in/gnGiWWum) https://lnkd.in/e5P2hTdq?
