IOM - UN Migration and the Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF'd) are proud to announce a new partnership to enhance our understanding of internal displacement and strengthen data-driven action to save lives and deliver solutions. The partnership will deliver a first-of-its-kind global dataset offering comparable, subnational mobility data, drawing on worldwide Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) operations. ‘DTM provides primary data on internal displacement in 100 countries, informing 86 per cent of humanitarian response plans worldwide,’ says Dr. Koko Warner, Director of IOM’s Global Data Institute, of which DTM is one of the institute’s founding pillars. Koko continues, ‘That is why the support from CRAF’d is pivotal in increasing efficiency system-wide by enabling the use of large amounts of data at an unprecedented spatial detail. That translates into stronger ability to save lives and drive solutions to displacement’. ➡️ Find out more https://lnkd.in/e_wcxU_2 Follow @Koko_Warner @IOM_GDI @CrafdData on X #data4action

⛑️ We need resources to strengthen the #resilience of communities in the face of an ever-growing number of natural and humanitarian disasters. How can #data and advanced analytical tools be better used to guide decision making and effective resource management for areas at #risk? 💡 This was just one of many great questions explored at a workshop in Berlin, attended by VIDA's Angus Dutton, organized by UNDP Germany and supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It was good to see thought leaders, policymakers and practitioners from across the public and private sectors discussing best practices and shared challenges for leveraging data to improve development and humanitarian funding. "From all the lessons shared, one stood out: the best decisions get made when tools are complemented by on-the-ground insights,” says Angus. “That's why it's so important for software like ours to continue having collaborative features that enable users to add photos, notes and comments to any location. These features bring people together and provide a rich understanding of what's happening where."

USAID has launched its inaugural Geospatial Strategy, enhancing its toolkit for more effective humanitarian and developmental assistance. This strategy aims to leverage geospatial data and tools for informed decision-making, innovation, and global leadership, while emphasizing equity. Administrator Samantha Power highlighted the transformative role of geospatial technology in areas like disaster response and climate impact analysis. The strategy also acknowledges challenges like privacy risks, potential marginalization, bias, and misinformation. Central to its application are three types of geospatial data: activity location, disaggregated indicator data, and thematic data, integral to USAID's mission of targeted, life-saving aid. #usaidgeospatial #geospatialstrategy #humanitarianaid #developmentassistance #datadrivendecisions #innovation #globalleadership #equity #privacyrisks #climateimpact Source- https://lnkd.in/ghJDQKnR

#Myanmar: after studying the country's #humanitarian analysis ecosystem, we have identified opportunities to strengthen it and support an effective response in a few main areas: • data and information sharing through collaboration • the use of local knowledge for ground truthing • the harmonisation of data collection processes and methodologies • the development of a comprehensive database. We have identified these opportunities while taking into consideration the extreme constraints that humanitarian responders, data collectors and information producers, and affected populations face in accessing information. Communications, Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), at Global Data Institute, International Organization for Migration (IOM)—Instructor—Researcher.
📢 A reminder to join us on Tuesday, 19 March, from 1400 to 1500 CET for an HDX Dataset Deep Dive with IOM hosted by the OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data. This webinar will showcase the work of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) at the Global Data Institute, IOM - UN Migration. Teams from DTM gather and analyse data to disseminate on the mobility, needs and vulnerabilities of displaced and mobile populations worldwide. IOM provides DTM data as a shared resource to all actors in a humanitarian response and actors engaged in supporting populations on the move. The DTM team will explain how its data supports decision-makers and responders to provide them with better context-specific assistance. HDX Dataset Deep Dives are a series of webinars highlighting compelling and relevant datasets on the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX), an open platform for finding and sharing data across crises and organisations. 👉 Registration https://lnkd.in/gKUPn6va

📢 A new Situational Analysis report on #Ukrainian Crisis is out! In partnership with REACH Initiative, this report has been released to provide reliable and up-to-date information on the context in #Ukraine, the living conditions and the needs of the population. Our strength in humanitarian data analysis at DFS lies in not just wrangling the #data, but using it to tell an accurate story of what is happening on the ground. Data Friendly Space uses theDEEP to explore different datasets to find the most important stories to tell that will in turn help make key humanitarian decisions. Humanitarian data analysis is a collaborative and robust process and we would like to highlight and extend our thanks to all those involved in this process: James Sparkes, Annesha Mahanta, Tiina Turk, Nika Shakya and Pooja Sharma at Togglecorp, Helena Merelo, and the team at Reach Initiatives. 🗒 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/d7qezGZM
