STEM education class on space science and technology at the Eluanbi Branch of Kenting Elementary School by the coast at the southern tip of #Taiwan. The kids clearly were excited and enjoyed the experience. A big hat tip to the members of my lab teaching, as well as our elementary education colleagues who clearly have built an impressive and fun curriculum that encourages fun learning, even including swimming, diving, and surfing. In a world where there is much that can inspire pessimism, despair, and disengagement, it is moments of positive energy and pure joy that encourage us that we can make the world a better place if we strive for it.

Great to be back at the first in person Pacific PNT Conference organized by The Institute of Navigation since the pandemic. Looking forward to sessions representing the major satellite navigation projects in the Asia Pacific region, as well as non satellite navigation technologies. Also pleased to be chairing the session on COSMIC/FORMOSAT. Given Taiwan’s early adoption of GNSS radio occultation remote sensing with applications to atmospheric water vapor and ionospheric profiles, as well as more recent investments in GNSS reflectometry and long term investments in ionospheric space weather studies, it is great to be able to showcase our results, while establishing new international partnerships and collaborations.

The rapid implementation of satellite communications terminals by the Taiwan Ministry of Digital Affairs #數位部 to support rescue efforts following the April 3 Taiwan earthquake has been very beneficial, especially given the need to provide comms for search and rescue in the remote mountainous areas around Taroko National Park. Thank you to #Taiwan’s 中華電視公司 (Chinese Television System) for the opportunity to discuss the benefits of satcom in this contingency, as well as the possibilities for future expanded implementation. Always pleased that our experiences in supporting small satellite and satcom development, as well as professional consultations at National Central University can contribute to our overall resilience and capacity building, as well as the public understanding of these new capabilities!
