One of the most tranquil experiences I've ever had was actually above a busy Liverpool city centre store.

After a particularly busy week this month, I decided to treat myself to a spa treatment. Lush Spa, on Church Street, has recently been named one of the best spas in the country. The spa, which is found above the Liverpool store that's the biggest Lush in the world, was listed among the top 10 across the whole country, based on data and reviews from TripAdvisor, Google and Instagram.

With this in mind, I thought I'd give a Sound Bath a go for £80. The holistic 60-minute ear candle, face, and scalp massage treatment appealed to me for many reasons. Firstly I was promised a retuning of my mind and body but also because very little undressing was required and I didn't need to pack a bikini or change of clothes, meaning it was easier to go straight from work.

I was early for my treatment so was able to browse the high street and take a look around the huge Lush shop before heading up. At this point, I didn't feel great I'll be honest.

After a full shift in work, I just wanted to switch off and I certainly didn't feel happy to be caught up in the crowds of shoppers. But as soon as I went upstairs, the noise from the high street below quite magically disappeared. I'm still not sure how this was managed - a lot of double glazing?

Either way, I was already delighted to have found a sanctuary in the middle of Church Street. After checking in I was treated to a special drink and chocolate which was supposed to help me unwind before my treatment and introduced to my masseuse.

The treatment room was dim and warm, I was already feeling myself unwind. When it began, it was an absolute treat for the sense, my masseuse explained to me that many people fall asleep during the section with the ear candles.

I didn't fall asleep but I was calm and surprised at how quickly my thoughts seemed to stop racing. My favourite part was the basalt stones and face and scalp massage which almost did send me to sleep.

For days afterwards, I noticed a difference in the appearance of my skin, even though a facial wasn't performed. I'm assuming it's because the massage stimulated circulation which helped with puffiness afterwards.

Throughout a relaxing soundtrack was played but my senses really noticed the difference when the Tibetan singing bowls and gongs were introduced. I could feel the vibrations from the sounds and the tuning forks, a sensation I've not properly enjoyed before.

All of this paired with the heavenly incense smell created what I can only describe as complete serenity. However, don't just take my word for it, many reviews online praise the Sound Bath experience, with one person commenting: "The whole session was amazing, an absolutely wonderful calming experience. Highly recommend this to anyone who needs to take time out and receive some TLC from a highly trained therapist."

Another added: "This was honestly the best spa treatment I’ve ever had. It was amazing from start to finish." While a third said: "I visited the Liverpool store today and from start to finish the whole experience was unreal...The treatment was nothing like I’ve ever experienced.

"After a tough couple of months emotionally I felt completely out of balance and a little lost, however during the treatment I felt my body and mind releasing all that negative energy that doesn’t serve me. I feel like I’ve reset and I am ready to take on life’s challenges again." For more information, visit Lush here.
