Portrait of Richard Pérez-Peña

Richard Pérez-Peña

I edit and write articles about events and issues around the world, a position I’ve held since 2018, based first in London and now in New York. I work primarily on news from Europe, with a focus on the war in Ukraine, but also from Africa, the Americas and Asia.

Before becoming an editor, I was a reporter for The Times for 25 years, with beats including national news, higher education, the newspaper industry, health care, politics, government, transportation and the courts. I’ve written extensively about topics as varied as political campaigns, college admissions, the diabetes epidemic, corporate takeovers, terrorist attacks and criminal justice.

I believe wholeheartedly that clear, accurate information about important events and trends is vital to democracy, informed dialogue, tolerance and prosperity. The Times and its people are committed to providing that information, and we are committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook.
