      Critics Consensus

24's sophomore outing is not as elegantly structured as its predecessor, but the series firmly puts to rest any fears that its propulsive thrills were a one-time novelty.

Castiel A This show is so unbelievably dumb. Jack's character is the only saving grace. Every other character acts like they have room temp IQ at all times. Season 2 episode 19 is by far the worst writing out literally anything I've EVER seen in media. Yusuf's death is so ungodly stupid it drives me insane. Random rednecks from out of absolute thin air in LA?!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! WHAT IS THIS?! WHY?! THE ABSOLUTE PEAK OF DUMB WRITING.I swear to god...they had the dumbest writers of all time. You couldn't write a worse episode than that. Period Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/27/23 Full Review Dave C Thankfully, the continued constipated tension is eventually surpassed by a storyline that actually delivers thrills and tension, with character relationships that don't constantly irritate. Much better than Day 1 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/10/23 Full Review Brett R I actually like this season more than the ground breaking Day 1, which redefined television as a storytelling medium, so that's saying something. The supposed weak link B-plot involving babysitting actually works as a plot device and is completely forgivable since the writers were still feeling out the concept. Everything else works perfectly in a brilliant stretch of elegant storytelling in a season that rivals Day 5, which actually won the Emmy. Must see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review maitham h Well, that was disappointing. I only watched the first episode and stopped immediately after that. Isn't what made this show great that it was about each day. Why skip a year and something? This show went from being great to awful. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The best thing about Season Two is how it builds on the strengths of the first season. There is now trust between Palmer and Jack, and when the world faces another threat, the President stands his ground, even when his own staff is against him. Jack is more hardened and badass this time, immediately asking Mason for a hacksaw (probably his best quote). In some ways, it's more thrilling on the action front, and maintains the suspense pretty well throughout. New characters like Michelle and Kate have great chemistry with Tony and Jack, respectively. Nina Myers and Sherry even return to cause some trouble, and it's fun to watch them mess with people. BUT, the show suffers any time it focuses on Kim's subplot, which includes of course getting stalked by a cougar. WHAT?!? Sure, Elisha Cuthbert is hot, but I never thought she was the highlight of the show...Jack Bauer is! And honestly, the stakes and villain just don't feel as personal as the first season. Still a very good season of television, if you can fast-forward all of Kim's screen time (which is a LOT). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's all betrayal this betrayal that backstabbing traitor traitor betrayal backstabbing and more treason like seriously at this point how can anyone even trust anyone at all ever. Austin Smith New York Post This, my friends, is the real deal - a show that promises the goods and delivers them. Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times Serialized stories can be problematic; witness those relatively soft ratings that dogged the original "24." If this season's first two episodes are an indication, though, watch every hour and you'll be rewarded. Nov 19, 2018 Full Review Caryn James New York Times Darkly entertaining and as absorbing as ever, this season of 24 reflects a new wartime mentality, one that suits a war lurking in the shadows. Oct 31, 2018 Full Review Betsy Bozdech DVDJournal.com The season isn't perfect, by any means ... but for sheer adrenaline-rush TV, it's hard to beat. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 12, 2022 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk ... while the key plots are still interesting and there are some fun shoot-outs and twists, the side stories are often really uninteresting or at worse extremely annoying.
