      2009 Crime Drama List
76% 33 Reviews Tomatometer 83% 100+ Ratings Audience Score Counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer fights the bad guys of the world, a day at a time. With each week's episode unfolding in real time, "24" covers a single day in the life of Bauer each season. Jack deals with assassination attempts, nuclear attacks, bioterrorism, torture, traitors, sleeper cells, other bad guys and the alarming tendency for his romances to end badly -- very badly. Dave C Formulaic and boring… Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Brett R "24" struggled mightily in Day 6 so these scores for Day 7 are not surprising. But believe me, this season is on par with Day 1 and 4, marking the return of the franchise to form. The 2007 writers strike was probably a blessing in disguise, as this season is elegantly structured, challenging the very foundations of the 144 episodes that came before, with yet another killer twist at the start of the 3rd act that will either deliver or repel, but IMO was exactly the right path for our top two characters. Unlike Day 6, this IS canon and cannot be skipped. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review stoner j Not as good as season 8 but the latter half is excellent, lots of betrayals and reconnections… and loads of explosions. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member An improvement over the bad sixth season, 24's seventh Day is overall, more of a mixed bag, even moreso than the polarising fourth season. Kiefer Sutherland's performance is great as always, Jon Voight makes Jonas Hodges a fun, charismatic villain, the action sequences and stunts are some of the best 24 has ever had, especially in the episodes set in daytime, the plot is more coherent than the soap opera that Day 6 was, deaths aren't just there for shock value and I do think they handled things well with Tony and Kim. But the change in location doesn't seem to mean much in the grand scheme of things, the FBI is a glorified palette swap of CTU, the new characters not named Renee Walker or President Allison Taylor are bland or irritating (in a dark show like 24, Janeane Garofalo's attempts at comic relief don't really work and her dynamic with this guy who looks like a jerk just comes off as a misguided attempt to recapture how well Chloe and Edgar played off of each other in the fourth and fifth seasons), Olivia Taylor doesn't work as the next Sherry Palmer, the themes about law and morality are heavy-handed to the point of being more grating than thought-provoking, especially with an obnoxious senator and then the final three episodes reveal the true mastermind to be some guy we've never seen before. His unimpressive acting doesn't help, especially with retcons more blatant than the one that started the season. At least, that retcon was confirmed to have been set up. 24 S7 is definitely an improvement over S6 but its attempts to recapture the magic of S5, when the show peaked, definitely hurt it and meant that some would not be surprised that the next season would be the last and a planned big-screen movie remained stuck in development hell. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Let's face the facts: 24 peaked at Season 5, Season 6 was terrible, and the WGA Strike didn't do this one any favors (at least we got "Redemption"). At least the action is moved to D.C., and we get "Die Hard in the White House". Also gotta love Jon Voight in his hammy new role, he's a lot of fun to watch. I have mixed feelings about Jack brought on trial to answer for his torture tactics, but the reasons were obvious; however, you just need to let him do his job, and Renee Walker proves that you CAN take it even farther than Jack ever did, so what's the point? Also, despite attempts to mix things up by bringing Tony back, the writers made him into too dark of a character. And the show is, naturally, too predictable in its plot points by now that nothing is really surprising any more. Sutherland is still great as Jack, and as a season of 24 it's perfectly fine...but the writers can do better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This season was a strong return to form. The only season (aside from maybe season 5) without an eye-rolling storyline. It did a good job of deepening the character of Jack and those around him. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
