    News, campaigns and media

We give more than 200 interviews each year on all major media channels. Alongside these are written and spoken comment on a daily basis.

Our independent campaigning voice, supported by the direct help we provide, has a key role to play in improving care and treatment for people with all mental health conditions, their families, friends and carers, and the professionals working with them.

There has been growing awareness and public perception of mental health over the past few years.

However, efforts to raise awareness and combat stigma have not been matched by increased provision on the frontline. The daily reality experienced by those who contact us often remains bleak.

    Influence policy and improve services

SANE campaigns to influence mental health policy and improve services, as well as combating the stigma and ignorance, which often exacerbate the distress that people experience.

Our work includes campaigning for reform of mental health law, better access to psychological therapies and standard of care on psychiatric wards.

Our campaigning highlights the crisis in psychiatric care as we campaign for:

We work with Government and other organisations such as NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), Care and Support Alliance and the Mental Health Alliance.

SANE also joins forces with other charities to urge politicians to find long-term solution to the mental health needs of the nation.

We have commented on Government plans for reviewing the Mental Health Act and submitted our comments on the public consultation on its White Paper which is now complete.
