RIJEKA boss Zeljko Sopic has poured scorn on suggestions he could be in the mix for the vacant Aberdeen job.

The 49-year-old has saved Gorica from relegation and led Rijeka to the top of the Croatian league ahead of Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split.

Sopic has worked wonders in Croatia

SunSport understands that Sopic ISN'T on the Dons' list of manager targets.

But now the Croat himself has been responding to the speculation after a raft of reports in his homeland this morning linked him with the role.

The Dons currently sit ninth in the table and not free of relegation uncertainty, having got rid of Barry Robson and Neil Warnock this season.

And the manager hunt still appears some way from a conclusion, with sources in Sweden expecting Jimmy Thelin to stay on at Elfsborg.

Neil Lennon and Mark Fotheringham have both expressed interest in the Aberdeen job while Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has also been linked.

Thelin now looks to be off the shortlist although chairman Dave Cormack would love to find a new gaffer before the relegation six-pointer against Ross County a week on Saturday.

According to Croatian paper Novi List, Sopic said on the job links: "It's constantly raining there, and that's not good for my hairstyle at all".

Meanwhile, on Wednesday night at Pittodrie there was a reminder of the good old days - with no fewer than two current SPFL bosses who are putting together impressive seasons in the house.

The Madri Lounge at the stadium was playing host to a reunion dinner and Q and A on the 10-year anniversary of the Dons' League Cup win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Celtic Park.

Currently leading an impressive Kilmarnock side to an excellent top six finish, McInnes was back at the club - alongside his former assistant Tony Docherty.

Docherty has had an excellent campaign at Dundee, and he could still join his former mentor in the top half of the Premiership table after the split.

All proceeds from the event were going to the Russell Anderson Foundation.

And the former Dons club captain was pictured alongside other veterans of the day such as ex-boss Barry Robson.
