Monica, who lives alone in the three-bed home, admitted she's been sleeping on her COUCH for 10 years because her bedroom was too cluttered.

The build-up of mess around Monica's home had been an "ongoing" concern for her family, especially her daughter Michelle and her granddaughter Janette.

Michelle said: "How she lives in this house I don't know and how her back is not crippled from sleeping on the sofa, I don't know."

Monica and her husband Dick first bought the house back in 1987, and it became a "bustling family home" for them and their three kids.

And Monica told how people use to call the house "Monica's diner" as she was "always cooking for everyone".

Sadly, it was discovered that Dick had four tumours on his brain and cancer then spread to his lungs before he sadly died.

And sadly just four years ago, Monica's son Richie also died at the age of 43.

Richie passed away just six weeks after his diagnosis with lung cancer, leaving behind three young children.

With Dick's anniversary this month, Monica and her daughters felt it was the perfect time to get the house sorted - and so drafted in the Home Rescue team.

Monica's ultimate dream was to de-clutter her lifeless home and create an open kitcher-diner so she could entertain her family and friends like she used to.

CLEAR OUT TIME

Interior designer Dee and builder Peter got to work on plans, while Monica's daughter, four grandchildren and the Home Rescue team of clutterbusters got to work on clearing out the house.

Dee planned to turn the kitchen and downstairs bedroom into one open space, that was both "casual and family friendly" - perfect for Monica's needs.

Monica fancied a new kitchen inspired by a "diner or greasy spoon" with lots of seating.

And Dee wanted Monica to be able to have her family and grandkids over to stay the night - as well as having a comfortable space of her own to sleep in.

Dee and Peter decided their priority would be the downstairs area and knocking the wall.

The builder and his construction team got stuck into doubling the space in the kitchen-diner, while Dee put together a muted green colour scheme for both the kitchen and bedroom, with plenty of diner-inspired touches for the reopening of Monica's diner.

And after just five days on the job, the home was finally finished - and it looked incredible.

Once she stepped inside the house, Monica was immediately brought to tears when she saw the kitchen.

She said: "This can't be my home. I feel like a child on Christmas morning."

Monica's granddaughter Michelle said she hadn't seen her nanny cry in her "entire life".

And when Monica stepped inside the new bedroom she was totally shocked, adding that she had "finally got her home back after 10 years".

Home Rescue fans were left in floods of tears at the latest episode, praising Dee and Peter for their thoughtful work on Monica's home.

One said: "Amazing job Dee and Team Pete!"

Another added: "Amazing job, well done to all involved delighted for Monica, well deserved."

A third wrote: "Another great home rescue and for a lovely lady."

Home Rescue: The Big Fix returns to screens next Thursday, when
Dee and Peter come to the aid of Ger and Josephine Nihill in Tulla in Co Clare, who want to clear their cluttered home in time for the eldest daughter's wedding.
