Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders in running to become Ajax head coach

The 41-year-old will leave Anfield along with Jürgen Klopp at the end of the season as the Eredivisie club seek a permanent manager to replace John van ’t Schip

Pepijn Lijnders, the Liverpool assistant manager, is under consideration by Ajax to become their head coach next season.

Ajax are seeking a permanent manager to replace John van ’t Schip, who has been an interim appointment since the departure of Maurice Steijn in October.

Lijnders will leave Anfield along with Jürgen Klopp at the end of the campaign and has already stated he feels ready to move back into management.

The 41-year-old had a brief spell in charge of NEC Nijmegen between January and May 2018 but parted company with the Dutch side after five months, having failed to secure promotion to the Eredivisie.

He returned to Liverpool and has since established himself as Klopp’s trusted No 2, along with Peter Krawietz, with his energy
