Nottingham Forest’s first-team coach Steven Reid has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined £5,000 after calling the referee, Paul Tierney, a “c**t” three times at the end of his side’s defeat by Liverpool.

Reid was found guilty of misconduct by the FA after Tierney’s report claimed that he had used abusive language towards him following the Premier League game at the City Ground on March 2.

A 99th-minute Darwin Núñez goal gave the away side a 1-0 win but Forest were left incensed at Tierney’s decision a minute earlier to let Liverpool restart the game, even though the home team had control of the ball in a dangerous attacking position before the action was stopped because of a head injury to the Liverpool
