Ollie Pope has decided against having a break after a disappointing tour to India and will return to county duty with Surrey when the season begins next week.

Pope was the star of England’s only win of the series in India, scoring a scintillating 196 in the first Test in Hyderabad, but failed to go beyond 39 in his next eight innings and was out for a pair in Ranchi.

The series, which India won 4-1, had marked Pope’s return to action after a long layoff due to dislocating his right shoulder during the Ashes last summer, meaning he missed being part of Surrey’s County Championship-winning side last year.
