A LONG-serving headteacher at Worle's St Mark's Primary School will be retiring at the end of 2023.

Mrs Helen Bath has spent the last 39 years in the teaching profession. The end of this month will mark 23 years since she has been a headteacher, making her the longest serving head in the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust.

For 20 years, Mrs Bath has been working at the Worle school, and has definitely made an impact.

Last week, a child in Year 5 read her a comic that he had written about her, which read: "Mrs Bath is headteacher at St Mark's - she is lovely! But one day she said that she was retiring! People were sad but then she told them it would be ok!

"St Mark's is her life. Now a new life shall arise!"

Likewise, a student in Year 6 wrote to Mrs Bath, thanking her for the support she gave during a family bereavement some years ago. She was described by the pupil as her "bright sunshine" when days were "raining."

Mrs Bath was specifically praised for her devotion to the school during its latest Statutory Inspection (SIAMS), in which it was said that "an extraordinary explosion of light and love radiates from this school where everyone is valued and nurtured."

Mrs Bath has said that she will miss the children and will cherish the memories that she has made with them over the decades.

St Mark's School website states that: "As a Christian school our core values permeate all aspects of school life. We have high expectations at St Mark's with regards to manners, behaviour, respectfulness and attendance.

"We actively encourage all members of the school community to share a smile each and every day and to undertake random acts of kindness. All our children at St Mark's feel valued, safe and secure.

"The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils."
