A PUBLIC consultation has been launched to get residents' views on restricting vehicle access in Cheddar Gorge.

Proposals have been put forward to close Cliff Road (B3135) to vehicles from Cheddar Caves to the Black Rock car park for one day a month.

This is in response to complaints about traffic build-up and antisocial driving.

A spokesperson from the Mendip Hills National Landscape team said: "Cheddar Gorge for everyone? We're seeking feedback on proposals to test new measures to open up Cheddar Gorge to walkers, cyclists and other visitors.

"The project, Cheddar Gorge for Everyone, proposes an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order to restrict vehicular access to give visitors the chance to enjoy the Gorge more safely.

"It would also offer the opportunity for activities and events to be organised and held in Cheddar Gorge.

"We're proposing a section of the gorge becomes traffic free once a month but would like to hear your views on this."
