A PROJECT looking to put a defibrillator within a three-minute walk from any location in Weston has been boosted by the council.

Weston Town Council pledged its support by donating £1,700 towards the Donate For Defib Weston-super-Mare Project, which aims to make defibrillators accessible throughout the town.

The initiative, led by student paramedic Josh Bell and Mr. Tom Farrand, stems from a community need for accessible defibrillators.

The duo have already installed defibrillators at places including the Regency Pub, Waverly Pub, and George & Dragon Pub.

The team's main objective is to place a defibrillator three minutes from any location to ensure that there is quick accessibility to one in a cardiac emergency.

Each defibrillator kit, priced at £1,705, includes installation, public liability insurance, training, and community registration.

The public has backed the campaign with successful recent fundraising events including race night at The Regency Pub, bingo/raffle/auction night at the 49 Club and a Christmas quiz night at The Regency Pub on December 17 have helped to raise funds for defibrillators.

Anyone who already has a defibrillator installed on their land should register on the 'Circuit'- a public-accessible website that lists defibrillator locations. It is used by the emergency services to direct members of the public to the nearest one, providing them the access code if required.

The Donate For Defib team is putting together a 2024 calendar of events and is planning an expansion of the senior management team.

The team appreciates the community support and urge interested parties to join their efforts by contacting them directly.

The town council eagerly awaits a safer community via their alliance with the Donate For Defib Weston-super-Mare Project.
