A barbers’ shop in Weston-super-Mare faces a close shave with the council’s planning department, as they are having to seek retrospective planning permission.
The Kurdish Kutz barber on Meadow Street by the Carrot, replaced the timber storefront — described in their application as “dated and timeworn” — with a floor-to-ceiling window and glass door.
But now they are having to seek planning permission for the change.

The statement submitted with their application said: “Glazed frontages are very common within what is the primary retail area of the town and the introduction of these is not deemed to be out-of-keeping with the area.”
The barbers’ is also seeking retrospective advertising consent for its new sign.
The Moss barbers’ which used to occupy the shop had a red sign and Union Jack barber’s pole, but Kurdish Kutz has an illuminated sign bearing the flag of Kurdistan and a new traditional barber’s pole.
