Dozens of students from a Weston school took part in a Maths challenge.

The 59 Year 9 students from Hans Price Academy competed in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust at the end of January.

Of the participants from Hans Price Academy, one bagged a gold certificate, four clinched silver and a dozen walked away with bronze.

Three also qualified for the elite Grey Kangaroo follow-on round, something only a few thousand students achieve nationally.

Maths teacher Tricia Morris, who arranged the challenge, exclaimed: "We were very pleased with the results and we are really proud of all the students who took part in the challenge.

"They demonstrated many of our Hans Price values with their ambition and never give up attitude.

"It was a difficult challenge and they should all be proud of what they have achieved".

The national contest, the country's largest, attracts approximately 700,000 students annually, focusing on enhancing mathematical reasoning and precision of thought.

The one-hour test is aimed at students of Year 11 and below.
