Biography

One of the most famous modern abstract expressionist painters.

Marcus Rothkowitz was born in 1904 in Russia--present-day Latvia. He immigrated to the United States in 1913.^[1] He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1938.^[2]

By 1940 he was married to Edith Sachar.^[3] That marriage ended and he later married Mary Alice Beistle. He died in 1970 in New York CIty.^[4]
