  1. Premier League clubs vote to consider spending cappublished at 18:00

Premier League trophyImage source, Getty Images

Premier League clubs have voted in favour of adopting an anchoring economic model, which will be linked to the earnings of the bottom club (tv and prize money).

The proposed system would operate like a spending cap.

The next stage is final analysis and drafting of rules, which will potentially be put to clubs at an AGM in June.

The model will be presented to clubs and - should clubs vote in favour then - it will replace the Profit and Sustainability Rules currently in place, from the 2025-26 season onwards.

Any new element of the financial system would come in shadow next season, to fully replace PSR in 2025-26.

“We will obviously wait to see further details of these specific proposals, but we have always been clear that we would oppose any measure that would place a ‘hard’ cap on player wages," said the PFA

“There is an established process in place to ensure that proposals like this, which would directly impact our members, have to be properly consulted on.”

Aston Villa, Manchester City and Manchester United opposed the vote, with Chelsea abstaining.

We asked for your views on Saturday's match between Manchester United and Burnley.

Here are some of your answers:

    United fans

Bob: Erik ten Hag has lost the plot. I've said it before and will say it again - he is a mediocre manager out of his depth. If it wasn’t for McTominay scoring a few crucial goals, Ten Hag would be gone. He has to go. I'm bored of listening to him once a week, goodness knows how the players put up with him.

Scott: Manchester United need a good clear out this summer of the players that are either past their best or just simply not good enough, after numerous years of waiting or chances - Rashford, Wan-Bissaka, Eriksen, Casemiro. Not to mention Onana, who has cost us far too many times this season. We will never get anywhere with him between the sticks!

Will: Little has changed since the early season Champions League games. While my instinct is to blame the manager, especially after another Onana error, the fact remains - something deeper is wrong at the club. Until that is fixed, the manager cannot be solely responsible. Moyes, Mourinho, Rangnick, Van Gaal, Solskjaer, Giggs, Carrick... let's give Ineos time.

Graham: Yet another scrappy display, without any real team structure. Yet another winning position lost through a dreadful header by Casemiro, and Onana then conceding a penalty. Are there any other teams who have lost as many matches from a winning position with just minutes on the clock? Extremely poor decision-making.

    Burnley fans

Steven: Fantastic performance, nothing to be negative about there! One defeat in eight games, it's a shame there aren't 13 games left. Onto next Saturday, we can do this! Up the Clarets.

Mark: The team are really coming together well. It is a few games too late for us this season, but I like the way the team are playing. I want to keep Kompany for a while yet!

Jack: I've got to admit, Burnley gave max effort. They were a bit lucky at times and I had really hoped this could be the one to upset the applecart. Our run in is the hardest - sorry Natalie (Bromley - BBC Sport's Burnley Fan Writer), the great escape is not on.

Tony: A gutsy performance and a valuable point. It brings Nottingham Forest into play for the last game of the season. Don't write off the Clarets just yet!

  3. 'How many times have we said about Burnley playing out from the back?'published at 11:06

BBC Radio 5 Live's Sports Report image

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has warned Burnley about playing out from the back again, after defensive midfielder Sander Berge's wayward pass was intercepted by Antony for Manchester United's opening goal in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

"They play some nice football, but how many times have we said about Burnley playing out from the back this season and getting caught and conceding a goal?" Shearer said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Sports Report.

"You think to yourself, are they ever going to learn their lesson?

"They were under no pressure at all against Manchester United, when they were trying to play out from the back, but it took one stupid misplaced pass to find themselves 1-0 down - when they just didn't deserve it.

"To be fair to them, they showed great character in coming back [from 1-0 down] and they were rightly given the penalty.

"Even then they could have gone on to win it, if it wasn't for a really good save from Andre Onana. I thought it was a terrible performance from Manchester United."

The result did bring Vincent Kompany's side one step closer to climbing out of the relegation zone though, with the Clarets now within two points of fourth-from-bottom Nottingham Forest, who they play at Turf Moor on the final day of the season.

  4. 'We're taking it to teams and that's important' - why future is brightpublished at 09:58

Burnley have given themselves a chance of survival with a superb run of one defeat in eight games.

They still need a few things to go their way just to get to that final day meeting with Nottingham Forest that could prove decisive.

It is a position they could hardly have expected to be in after they lost at home to West Ham on 25 November, by which point Vincent Kompany's side had taken just four points from their opening 13 games.

The improvement means Burnley defender Dara O'Shea feels the Clarets can look forward to the future with confidence, no matter what the next three weeks brings.

"We're a new team that's been put together this season and we're trying to play football," said the Republic of Ireland international.

“We're not sitting in a deep block and inviting pressure. We're taking it to teams and that's important.

“It's a young group with a lot of players who haven't played in the Premier League before or even in England for that matter.

“It's probably just unfortunate that it's clicking towards the end of the season. We would have liked it to click a lot earlier in the season to put ourselves in a better position, but this is the hand we've been dealt and we've just got to crack on with it."

  5. 'Forest are the favourites at this moment in time'published at 08:37

BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Sports Report

With Everton and Brentford sealing their Premier League survival, only three teams are left in the fight against relegation this season - Nottingham Forest, Luton Town and Burnley - with just two points separating the three teams at the bottom of the table.

Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown has been discussing the survival race on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Sports Report: "Well, my former team Sheffield United didn't have enough.

"Then you have Burnley, they are not going away and they are keeping up that fight.

"Luton have surprised everybody so much this season, but they are now falling away with some poor results. They had some good home games that you would have expected them to get some results in, given the way they have gone about things this season.

"Nottingham Forest are under that pressure as well.

"So, who is going to do it? I think Forest are the favourites at this moment in time, but what an end to the season it is going to be at the bottom of the league."

Another precious point won for Burnley. Another encouraging performance that just increases frustration that a) they didn't start getting positive results earlier in the season and b) that they lost at Everton.

Burnley are in an uncomfortable position.

Somehow they must get as many points from games against Newcastle United and Tottenham as Nottingham Forest do from their next three - which includes a trip to relegated Sheffield United next weekend.

Lyle Foster was unfortunate not to give Burnley all three points at Old Trafford, but it didn't happen.

Burnley and their manager Vincent Kompany need a favour - starting from his old boss Pep Guardiola and Manchester City tomorrow.

  7. Man Utd 1-1 Burnley: Key statspublished at 18:16 27 April

Here are the key facts and figures following Saturday’s game between Manchester United and Burnley in the Premier League.

    • Manchester United have only lost one of their last 17 Premier League games against Burnley (2-0 at Old Trafford in January 2020). However, they have now failed to win five of their past seven at home against the Clarets (W2 D4 L1).

    • After starting 2024 with five defeats in their first seven Premier League games (D2), Burnley have only lost one of their past eight matches in the competition (W2 D5).

    • Manchester United have failed to win five of their past six Premier League games (W1 D4 L1), conceding 12 goals in total during this period.

    • Antony scored just his second Premier League goal at Old Trafford, and his first goal in 26 home matches, since netting against Arsenal on his debut in the competition in September 2022.

    • Zeki Amdouni scored the latest Premier League penalty (87th minute) against Manchester United at Old Trafford since Leighton Baines for Everton in December 2006 (92nd minute).

  8. Man Utd 1-1 Burnley: What Kompany saidpublished at 17:31 27 April

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has been talking to BBC Match of the Day about his side having enough chances to win the game: "That is football. We are where we are for a reason. If we were clinical in all moments, we would be well clear of the relegation zone.

"Our attitude was impeccable and the sacrifice for the team was impeccable too. Old Trafford is always a tough place to go to, we will take the positives and hopefully keep the momentum ahead of two games at Turf Moor."

On Zeki Amdouni's perfect penalty record: "Don't jinx it! I won't be saying anything else about that. He is a goal scorer. Hidden in the inexperience of our squad are some really, really good talents. It is not a coincidence that he scored that goal. He is an outstanding talent."

On Dara O'Shea: "There are too many [players] to pick out. For us, it is not just about his defending and [his work] on the ball, it is about his leadership.

"We don't have a lot of experience, but he has stood up and that has been important for us."

On the rest of their season and their fight for survival: "If I was die tomorrow, you could put 'we keep going' on my headstone.

"There is tremendous consistency in the club and the approach to each game, even in the tough times.

"We have earned the right to believe and hope."

  9. Man Utd 1-1 Burnley: What Amdouni saidpublished at 17:12 27 April

Burnley goal scorer Zeki Amdouni has been speaking to Premier League Productions following the important draw: "The result is very important for us. We knew that coming to Old Trafford would be difficult but, at the end, I think we deserved this point.

"We could have got more from the game but Manchester United also had a lot of chances. Our goalkeeper saved some great chances, but some opportunities we can do better.

"It is never easy to take a penalty in the last five minutes at 1-0 down, but I took my breath and took it."

On continuing to fight against relegation: "We have three games. I haven't seen the other results, but we will play until the last game.

"We will play until the end."

  10. Full-time: Man Utd 1-1 Burnleypublished at 17:05 27 April

    Have your say

Zeki Amdouni scored a late penalty for Burnley as Manchester United were held to a draw at Old Trafford.

Antony had given the hosts the lead, intercepting a pass and running through to slot in for his first league goal of the season.

Andre Onana then gave away a penalty with three minutes remaining, clattering into Amdouni when attempting to gather a cross.

Amdouni put the spot-kick in the bottom corner to earn Burnley what may prove to be a crucial point in their survival bid.

  11. Sutton's predictions: Man Utd v Burnleypublished at 11:50 27 April

    Sutton's predictions

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

For this weekend's games, he takes on Andy Bell and Steve Queralt from Ride, who support Arsenal and Tottenham.

    Sutton's predictions: 2-1

Manchester United never seem to make things easy for themselves, as they showed again in midweek.

The one time I predict them to win a game, against bottom side Sheffield United, they ended up going behind twice before turning it around.

Burnley have given themselves a chance of staying up and, if you look at their recent performances, they have been pretty consistent.

The Clarets' results have improved too - they have only lost one of their past seven games, and would have picked up more than 10 points if not for some costly goalkeeper errors.

So, they will be up for this one, and they already gave United a close game at Turf Moor earlier in the season, when they lost out to a brilliant Bruno Fernandes volley.

I don't always agree with Fernandes' antics, but he is such an important player for Erik ten Hag's side. After rescuing them against the Blades on Wednesday, he will probably help them get over the line in this game too.

    Steve's prediction: 2-0

United are so unpredictable - but they are at home and I actually think Burnley are done for, in terms of relegation, so it could be quite comfortable for them.

    Andy's prediction: 0-0

That's interesting. I should caveat all of this by saying I have no idea about football really, I just like going to watch Arsenal. Having said that, I know United have been up and down so I am going to back Burnley to follow up their big win from last week and hold them off here.

  12. Man Utd v Burnley: Pick of the statspublished at 08:18 26 April

Here is a selection of the key facts and figures before Manchester United host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

    • Manchester United have lost just one of their past 16 Premier League games against Burnley and have scored three goals in all four of their home wins over the Clarets in the competition.

    • The Reds Devils have never lost a Premier League home game against the previous season's second-tier champions - winning 24 and drawing seven of those 31 matches.

    • Burnley have not kept a clean sheet in any of their past 16 league matches, while their 69 goals conceded this term is their second most in a campaign in the competition after 2009-10 (82).

    • United have lost four league games in Saturday 15:00 kick-offs this season, as many as they had in the previous seven campaigns combined. In fact, they have never lost five games in this traditional kick-off slot in a Premier League season.

    • As a player, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany won five of his nine Premier League away games against Manchester United (56%). He could become the third person to beat United at Old Trafford as both a player and a manager in the Premier League, after Steve Clarke and Mark Hughes.

  13. Kompany on relegation battle, facing Man Utd and his futurepublished at 14:25 25 April

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Vincent Kompany has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League trip to Manchester United.

Here are the key lines from the Burnley manager:

    • On whether they have a glimmer of hope for survival: “Game by game at this moment in time. Just gives us one opportunity to fight - that is all we need and we spend so much energy in training to get the team to the best possible level. Saturday against Sheffield United was one game and that [win] gives us an opportunity."

    • On facing Manchester United: "It is a meaningful game and has been for many years in my life. It is really about Burnley and it is for this club and I want to be successful on Saturday. As a manager, you do keep the experience as a player. I have to transfer something into them so they feel they belong to play in that game and win."

    • On United's 4-2 win over Sheffield United on Wednesday: "They have some high quality players in the final third. They have had struggles with injuries but when you play Man Utd you play a top team in the country and you have to embrace the challenge."

    • On the FA's written reasons for why he was sent off against Chelsea: “I was very clear about that on the day and the words that I used, especially mentioning 'cheat' and questioning the integrity, that is not what I think. That is why I apologised for my comments, when the mist comes down my goal is to be with the team."

    • On why Burnley's form has improved: “Consistency and hard work [and] making sure you don’t allow the noise [to distract]. The universal recipe is consistency which will make you improve and we still have room to improve. It is a very calm club- we have put in the hours to improve the players."

    • He is taking a level-headed approach to the final four games of season: “You cannot really focus on the other teams, you have to focus on yourselves and it is unpredictable, so anything can happen. What we have lacked is three pointers. We have some but I would like to push it again and for the team to make the next step. It is a tough game, but whether it’s United or another team, I want them to make the step up."

    • On his future at the club after being linked with a move to Brighton: "I never answer questions about my future. Ever."

  14. 'If you can't dream the impossible then maybe this isn't the game for you'published at 12:33 23 April

    Burnley fan's voice graphic

    Don't say it.

    Don't say it.

    Don't say it.

I can't help myself. THE GREAT ESCAPE IS BACK ON!

It has been a season with very little to cheer about, but two moments of joy have come in the games against our rivals for the league's wooden spoon: Sheffield United have lost both games to us, conceding nine goals along the way. Looking at the table, you can see why many are speculating that this may well have reignited our survival hopes.

Now I understand the raised eyebrows. I get it. I really do. We will probably go down. The table looks miserable. But I was reminded this weekend that there is literally nothing to lose in our dreaming of the great escape. Quite frankly, what else have we got to get excited about in these last four games? So we might as well have a bit of fun and hope.

Everton beating Forest was a cracking result (thanks Sean, love you), especially given we have to now play Forest. And while I can definitely share frustrations over refereeing decisions, Forest seem to want to make things even harder for themselves at the moment. Maybe, must maybe, that strong Burnley jaw gets us over the line. We have finally started to show some signs of improvement, playing much more confidently in the higher press and scoring goals.

On paper, we have two winnable games and two tough games - as Coventry showed us this weekend, Manchester United have weaknesses. Forest have three winnable games, are ahead of us in the table and get to play Sheffield United. So perhaps we are being very naïve here.

But this is football. And if you can't dream the impossible then maybe this isn't the game for you.
