The quiz saw contestant Brittany Collins - a children's hospital facilitator from Kentucky - bomb an easy answer.

And Pat did not hold back with his thoughts.

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak has been left stunned after a contestant's embarrassing fail

The 77-year-old, who is known for his barbed comments, assumed his usual position on Tuesday's episode of the ABC gameshow

In the segment, where there was $11,200 up for grabs, the board read: 'A_ _T_ING IS POSSI_ _ E.'

But the answer was not immediately clear to Brittany who opted to instead spin again and requested an R.

There were audible gasps from the audience with Brittany herself seemingly disappointed she did not clinch the prize pot.

Pat initially commiserated with the player before fellow contestant Susan Meissner, from South Carolina, quickly guessed correctly that the board read: 'Anything is possible'.

The host briefly praised Susan's efforts before appearing to make a dig at Brittany.

'Sometimes you're sitting at home, and you think, "I know that."

'It's a funny thing - sometimes, it just doesn't want to come in to focus, and then we move on to the next round.'

One person wrote: 'How did she not know it? It was pretty much complete, apart from like three letters.

'Now she's made me grind my teeth, and I can't stop.'

Another commented: 'Where the h*** did that woman think an 'R' was going to fit into that puzzle?'

And a third said: 'I can't believe she said 'R,' proving that anything is not possible.'

Neither Brittany nor Susan ended up winning the game.

Contestant Blake Swoboda, from Texas, took home $27,250 as his cash prize as well as a trip to Fairmont Mayakoba, located in Riviera Maya.

It comes after Pat announced that he will be retiring after being the face of the show for 43 years.

His final episode will be airing on June 7, and then Ryan Seacrest will take over as the new host in the fall.

Pat has hosted more than 7,500 editions of the game show since he started in 1983.

Last summer Pat tweeted: 'It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it'll keep the clickbait sites busy!).'
