One week left to sign up for this important event, don’t miss out 👇https://calp.net/4eF042D We’ll be joined by really interesting speakers including Danielle Mutone-Smith, PhD, Kate Hart, Innocent Tshilombo, Nabeh Laham and Karen Peachey. This is an important moment for the ‘Policy Dialogue on CVA’, an initiative working to forge a new collective vision for the future of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA). This gathering aims to build collective awareness of the community's perspectives on locally-led CVA, encourage reflection and feedback, and identify areas of consensus and divergence. The feedback will be used to refine the key recommendations of the Policy Dialogue. We hope to see you there.

Cash and voucher assistance has been a crucial part of humanitarian response. However, there are concerns about whether this assistance is reaching people with diverse SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity/Expression, and Sex Characteristics), also known as LGBTIQ+ individuals. These communities face distinct challenges due to systemic discrimination, such as loss of informal sector work, inability to access support without ID cards or sufficient funds for mobile phones, and increased risk of gender-based violence. Rediscover this 2021 publication by @Edge Effect and @Australian Aid to better understand the gaps and explore actionable steps for ensuring that cash-based assistance reaches and supports LGBTIQ+ communities effectively. Last week, CALP Network, in collaboration with the Flagship Initiative and Cash Working Group Philippines, held the CALP Course CVA Skills for Programme Staff Training in Legazpi City, Philippines. The event brought together over 20 participants from local organizations, INGOs, the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, and UN agencies. This training is part of CALP's involvement in the ERC Flagship Initiative in the Philippines. I was delighted with the successful conclusion of the training! I’ve seen how the sessions and engaging discussions elicited impactful plans. By mid-week, a participant from a provincial disaster management office expressed their intention to institutionalize #CVA programming in their province — a significant step towards #locally-led CVA initiatives! This is also a crucial step in using CVA as a tool to save lives and build resiliency. I must say that this outcome exceeded our expectations for the training. Many thanks to the generous support of USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance for making this initiative possible. We also extend our big thanks to the our lead trainer Juergen Mika, and to the amazing co-facilitators Rhina C. and Menchie Lacson who will be CALP-certified trainers soon! 🆕New in the library 📚 Targeting in Protracted Crises: Nigeria case study 📊 This case study on Nigeria by Institute of Development Studies examines conflict, violence and insecurity using General Household Survey data from 2010 to 2019. It analyzes trends in poverty, food insecurity, shocks, and coping strategies among different population groups, particularly those affected by Boko Haram and herder-farmer conflicts. It models various targeting approaches for social assistance programmes, assessing their performance and trade-offs. It also evaluates the infrastructure needed to implement these approaches. The study concludes with a discussion on the key considerations for selecting targeting criteria in social assistance programmes.
