Slovenes to clinch crucial victory
Slovenia impressed in the 1-1 draw against Denmark in their opener and they should have enough to get past a Serbia side that kicked off their tournament campaign with a 1-0 defeat to England.
Although the Eagles battled gamely in the loss to the Three Lions, they struggled to create scoring opportunities and were limited to just one shot on target, which came late on in the match.
It is now four defeats for the Serbs in their previous seven assignments and they could be in for further disappointment against a Slovenia outfit that secured a comeback point against the Danes.
Matjaz Kek’s troops have suffered just one defeat in their past 13 games, securing eight victories during that period, and they were fully deserving of that draw in their opener.
Benjamin Sesko was a livewire against Denmark, firing narrowly wide before crashing an effort against the bar, while goalkeeper Jan Oblak was as solid as ever.
Confidence is high in the Slovene camp and they can secure a crucial three points this afternoon that will put them a step closer to the next stage of the competition.
Slovenia vs Serbia tip 1: Slovenia to win @ 7/2 with Betfred
Quick strike expected
This should be a lively affair in the Munich Football Arena, with both teams hoping to make rapid inroads, and this should increase the chances of an early goal.
The first strike to come in the 11th-20th-minute period appeals at 4/1, with this bet landing in two of Slovenia’s previous three matches, including in the opener against Denmark.
The opening goal in Serbia’s past two outings has come in the 18th and 13th minutes, while they also conceded in the 10th and 13th minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Austria at the start of this month.
Slovenia vs Serbia tip 2: First goal time – 11th-20th minute @ 4/1 with Betfred
Duo to have names taken
Neither side are afraid to put a challenge in and this could be quite a physical contest at times, increasing the possibility of cards being dished out.
Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs, who is officiating, frequently issues cautions, with more than 60 yellow cards and three reds brandished across his previous eight matches.
With this in mind, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Adam Gnezda Cerin to be booked at 12/1 is the play here.
Milinkovic-Savic committed four fouls in the defeat to England, the most of any Serbian player, while Cerin topped his side’s chart for free kicks conceded with five in the Denmark draw.
Having both been lucky to escape a yellow so far, the duo’s luck could run out today.
