Sensational Haaland strikes again

The bookmakers continue to see this season’s Premier League Golden Boot competition as a one-horse race, halving Erling Haaland’s price to 1/5 favourite to complete a hat-trick of victories.

Haaland already has seven league goals for the season after scoring a hat-trick for the second week running, this time in City’s 3-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Norwegian has scored as many goals as Chelsea or Liverpool and more than any of the other 17 teams in the division. His overall Premier League record stands at 70 goals in 69 matches.

With City chasing a seventh league title in eight seasons, the bookmakers are convinced Haaland will finish top of the goalscoring charts again, making Mohamed Salah a distant second favourite at 10/1.

The Egypt striker found the net for the third match running in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Salah has also scored on each of his last seven visits to Old Trafford and is joined on the three-goal mark by team-mate Luiz Diaz, who scored twice in Sunday’s game.

Also on three goals are Bryan Mbeumo, who scored two of Brentford’s goals in a 3/1 win over Southampton, and Noni Madueke of Chelsea. The two are 66/1 and 50/1 respectively.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United was the third-highest scorer last season with 21 goals and he is 20/1 third favourite to win the Golden Boot after scoring his first of the campaign on Sunday.

Son Heung-min of Spurs is on two goals after scoring in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Everton and is 25/1, the same price as Cole Palmer of Chelsea, who failed to score in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
