What should I do if I get a pop-up message?

The BBC uses pop-up surveys across its UK websites to gather feedback about those sites. Usually, a message will appear on a page advising, ‘Do you have a few minutes to tell us what you think of this site?' and you can select either yes or no. These surveys help us to improve our services and we really value users taking the time to complete one.

However, you may see a pop-up survey with a message asking you to take part which you feel is suspicious. Such messages, which may tempt you with a chance to win something, are not authorised by the BBC and are most likely the result of a virus or an undesired download from another source.

In such circumstances, we recommend that you ensure your security software is up to date before scanning your computer for any viruses/malware. Whilst we appreciate reports from users about any such pop-up messages, we cannot do anything to prevent them or provide further support as the issue will be with the computer being used.
