Tackling suicide forums: ‘We have to look at understanding why people use these sites’

David Parfett spoke of his frustration that the websites his son, Tom, visited before his death are still accessible.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty about Tom, David said: “He just could not get the support that he wanted. He just didn’t feel that he could come out of his anxiety or his challenges.”

Tom saw his GP, went to mental health services and was also sectioned. However, online forums encouraged him to take his own life.

David added: “I know, even as we’re talking today, that there’ll be people on these forums and there’ll be other people trying to make money [from them].”
