I joined BBC Wales Sport in 2007 after starting my sports journalism career on The Western Mail. I was part of the original team who launched Sport Wales, the sport magazine show that ran for several years on BBC Two Wales.

I anchor Radio Wales Sport on Saturdays now - a show I know well, having previously driven all over the country as one of its main football commentators. I’ve also had a taste of network TV, having reported on Cardiff City and Swansea City for BBC One’s Saturday afternoon results show, Final Score, worked on The Football League Show, and presented the Snooker coverage on BBC Wales TV.

I’m originally from Wiltshire, but I’ve lived in Wales for more than 20 years, so kind-of count myself as half Welsh by now. My wife would disagree, coming from deepest Pembrokeshire, but I reckon I’ve got a bit of a Welsh twang in the voice. I moved here to study Language and Communication at Cardiff University and I’ve stayed ever since. Broadcasting was what I always wanted to do, but it wasn’t until I was 30 that I managed to get a foot in the door at the BBC – then jamming the other foot in and refusing to leave. I’d spent the best part of 20 years working in newspapers, joining the Western Mail and Echo after leaving university and working on some of the company’s weekly newspapers in Neath, Port Talbot and Bridgend, before moving to The Western Mail itself.

I’m genuinely excited to be presenting Radio Wales Sport each Saturday afternoon. I grew up watching football, and then listening to the results coming in on the radio or on the old vidiprinter on Grandstand.

So to be getting paid to broadcast from games and then summarise all the major results and stories from the afternoon’s games is a real thrill. I was lucky enough to present Radio Wales Sport on weekday evenings throughout the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and, having picked up the baton for the Saturday show, I’m hoping there’ll be as much drama and intrigue to bring you from our rugby and football coverage. Given there’s rarely a dull moment when it comes to our major football teams or the rugby regions, I’d like to think that’s a pretty safe bet.
