Cheltenham Gold Cup: Best Mate remembered 20 years after historic third win

To mark the 20th anniversary of legendary Gold Cup champion Best Mate's third triumph in the big race at Cheltenham, BBC Midlands Today spoke to the horse's former trainer Henrietta Knight.

She says she felt a responsibility for "the whole country" in getting the horse in shape to win a historic third successive Gold Cup in 2004.

Best Mate, whose Aston Villa supporting owner Jim Lewis died in 2023, became the first horse since the great Arkle, in 1966, to win the race three times in a row.
