Faes scored four goals for Reims last season

Leicester City have signed defender Wout Faes from French club Reims.

The 24-year-old comes in as a replacement for Wesley Fofana, who joined Chelsea for about £70m on Wednesday.

Faes has joined on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee, with the move subject to international clearance.

"It's an amazing feeling - it's not sunk in yet. This is the dream step in my career and I'm very happy to be here," said Faes.

"I'm progressing year after year, and I hope to continue doing the same here.

"All the facilities and knowledge is here to help me to get even better. I will have to work hard, but I will give 100% to help the team."

Faes, who came through the ranks at Anderlecht, signed for Ligue 1 club Reims in 2020 and made three appearances for the club this season.

He played 37 league games for them last season - scoring four goals - as they finished 12th in the league.

Faes has one cap for Belgium, as a substitute in a Nations League game against Poland in June.

    After the way Fofana treated Leicester after they looked after him all last season, I think most neutral supporters will wish Leicester well with this buy. I know they made a huge amount of money out of the Fofana sale but the way Fofana went about it was wrong.

    Seems like this transfer was already in place. Leicester are no mugs and I bet there is a substantial amount of the Fofana fee still available.

    A replacement for Fofana, who decided not to play as he had other things to do, a couple of days in New York ... photoshoot...all that jazz. Loyal foxes fan since 1966 and am very used to players being bought for profit so here's to the next one, signed him today apparently.

    Good signing. Agree with the Fofona saga. He should have repaid the loyalty shown in him. He is aware of the current transfer restrictions at the club and he should should have stayed for one more season. He is only 21. I think he has pulled a fast one and there was no need to have a dig at the club on the way out. Not nice. Never judge a book by its cover. Even salt looks like sugar

    The big clubs need to learn lessons about scouting from Leicester. They consistently buy players on the cheap then fleece the likes of utd, Chelsea, and City a cpl years later for the same players. As plenty of others have said, they'll probably sell him in summer 2024 for £60-£90 million.

    Have to respect teams like Leicester, looking to buy bargains & develop talent. Man C, Man U, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea & Arsenal are literally buying success, and it's depressing. It's not just about football, it's money. The US system of drafting stops that happening, I wish it was adopted here.
