Bristol City have signed midfielder Max Bird from Derby on a deal until 2027 but he will return to the Rams on loan for the rest of this season.

Teenage winger Adedire Mebude has also joined on loan from Belgian side KVC Westerlo until the end of the campaign.

Bird has played 191 times for Derby having been with them since he was 10.

The 23-year-old is out of contract this summer and Derby manager Paul Warne said it would take a "mind-blowing offer" for the club to sell him.

"Max is talented player with lots of experience for a player of his age, and we look forward to seeing him in a City shirt next season," said Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion.

Bird has scored three goals in 24 league appearances for Derby so far this season as they push for promotion to the Championship.

Mebude, 19, joined the Belgian Pro League side last summer and has made three appearances this campaign.

He has represented Scotland at under-21 level and also played for Rangers and Manchester City as a youth.

"Dire is an exciting young player and will add to our attacking options," Bristol City manager Liam Manning said.

"We've been watching him for a while and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do in a City shirt."
