Lucas Bergvall: Tottenham set to sign 17-year-old Swedish midfielder

Lucas Bergvall has won one international cap for Sweden

Tottenham are set to sign midfielder Lucas Bergvall from Swedish side Djurgarden for a fee approaching £8.5m.

The 17-year-old will have a medical on Friday and sign a five-year deal.

Bergvall, who has made 25 appearances for Djurgarden in the Swedish top flight, will link up with Tottenham's first team in the summer.

The Sweden international had previously been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona but has opted for a move to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's 20-year-old striker Alejo Veliz has joined La Liga side Sevilla on loan.

    Cost 25 mill less than nusa 2 years younger and has better stats good business from spurs

      Totally different type of player to Nusa. Bergvall is a 6, 8 or 10. Nusa is an out and out winger. Would have been great to sign both.

    Reaping the rewards of this strategy of buying but leaving out on loan for a season with Pape Sarr and Udogie. Let's hope this guy can continue that trend.

    I can not blame this young man for rejecting Barcelona in the end.

    They owe so many players unpaid wages I'm sure they'll still be making payments to long retired footballers in the 2030's.

    Sounds like a bit of a coup. Fair play Spurs. To be fair with Klopp leaving I think footballers will gravitate towards Spurs, their attacking style is very impressive and good luck to them. Think Spurs will nick 4th, hoping my team Man Utd get 5th and spawn CL football.

    Sound investment who will finish the season in Sweden. If he turns out to be the real deal, he'll make the first team, if not he'll be loaned out or sold. So much to gain, so little to lose.

    It's amazing how many English football fans find time to watch every other league in Europe. Other than visiting Sweden, how do fans get to see so many games

    Ive seen a fair bit of Bergvall at Bromma and then Djurgarden, hes talented but i cant see him being near the first team for the time being.

    We've had our share of buying young players but they can't break in to the first team and they fade into the sunset! I really hope this bucks the trend.

    Good Signing at last. Might as well ofload the Israeli boy they signed in the Summer, he was non starter. However no point signing youngsters if there never play. Ashley Philips and Donley need a proper start next season.

      These players are investments, they get developed either on loan or in junior squads before grabbing bit parts like Gil's had of late. Maybe they'll be top grade in future, otherwise they're sold and little is lost (across investments in young players) due to their age.
