Dundee United 0-2 Airdrieonians: Hosts lose points lead at the top

Dundee United remain top of the Scottish Championship only on goal difference after losing 2-0 at home to Airdrieonians.

Declan Gallagher and Louis Moult both went close for United.

And they were hit on the counter in the fourth minute of added time, Josh O'Connor sliding the ball home.

That sparked a chorus of boos around Tannadice as Airdrie moved to within six points of the promotion play-off places.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin: "We didn't play well, we certainly didn't do enough to win the game. Obviously we want to win every game we go in to. We have only had four defeats in the season, I think in 25 games. We are not used to losing games of football.

"We totally understand the frustration of the supporters, our form here at home hasn't been consistent enough all season and to play at a big club in front of the big crowds you have got to be a strong character and you have got to handle that expectation and I don't think we handled that well enough tonight."

Airdrieonians player/manager Rhys McCabe: "We are delighted with the result but I think the most pleasing part is we got the performance as well as the result. I thought we were in control for the majority of that game, we knocked the ball and played our style very well.

"We are a young squad, we know there are going to be imperfections and tough fixtures and performances but can we ride it out and stick to our way of playing."
