Bryn Morris celebrates his goal — Bryn Morris' goal was his first since scoring against Walsall on 10 February

Newport County moved to within two points of the League Two play-off places with an impressive 2-0 away win against AFC Wimbledon.

The hosts, who started the day in seventh, trailed after 10 minutes as Bryn Morris put the Exiles ahead.

Centre-back Kyle Jameson doubled the visitors' lead 10 minutes into the second half in south-west London, poking home at the back post.

Newport rise to 11th as the race for the play-off places gets even closer.

Wimbledon stay in seventh place despite defeat, but are now just one point above Walsall and Gillingham, who in turn are one point above Newport and Crawley.

Newport County manager Graham Coughlan told BBC Sport Wales: "It was a really strong performance, I thought we were very good particularly in the first half.

"There were lots of balls in the box we had to defend, it was a typical League Two away day, and our lads stood up and kept a clean sheet which is a big ask.

"We're within two points of 57 points which is the target we set. When we get there we can maybe set a different target, but at this moment in time we need to get to 57."

A master class by Newport into how to earn an away win against strong home opponents. This was the first of three very difficult away matches for the Exiles, who now visit Barrow and then Colchester. More of this kind of form and the play-offs could be a reality.

Excellent result county Against a good AFC Wimbledon side. My wish was just to avoid relegation which we have achieved. The rest of the season is just a bonus to me. Up the county.

Went to the game impressive set up at AFC Wimbledon Great team performance every one of the players was at least a 7 out of 10. Stood up to a very physical Wimbledon side and defended to man superbly.

We have a few injury problems now as Drysdale is also out for the season if we can overcome those issues the playoff isnt out of the question.

Newport were brought back in different reasons than afc, great to see the exiles back and strong like all smaller clubs who fall on hard times, apart from towns that steal a club from another community

Always good playing proper teams like Wimbledon. Went to MK a few weeks ago and the place is a joke. Newport and Wimbledon have quite a lot in common, and if we can't sneak into the play offs I hope the proper Dons go up.

I'll need to see it again but it looked like Gordon was denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Mansfield had a man sent-off for similar on the halfway line not the edge of the box.
Impressed with Newport as they made the most of it and took their chances.

Disappointing from AFC today. Too many average performances, especially Little. Had enough chances and majority of the play so should have seen off Newport, but they took their chances and the points. Well done, Newport. Come on Don's, we can make the play offs, but need to be much more clinical.
