Pant's superb 146 leads India to 338-7 at close - clips, radio & text

Rishabh Pant speaking to TMS: "I was trying to give my 100 percent. Its up to you to decide if that was my best. I enjoyed it a lot, especially playing in England where you feel like Test matches are important.

"I was focusing on my game and looking to build a partnership with my partner. When I'm batting, I'm clear in my head. I just think about one ball at a time. I think especially when you bat this long, you need someone to bat with. I'm feeling absolutely fine.

"I had some cramps and got hit on my hand. I think the game is pretty balanced right now. They bowled well at the start but we batted well to comeback. As long as we get 400 or 450, it will be a good total. I think the pitch is looking good, you just need to get yourself in first. It's great playing Test cricket in England, the atmosphere is great."

Rishabh Pant has also been speaking to TMS as well.

I don't think England did anything wrong but the ball just stops moving. It gets softer and doesn't do anything off the seam.

Put that together with the brilliance of Pant and stroke play of Jadeja, who brings a calmness to the crease, they batted really well as a partnership

We saw Blundell and Mitchell do it for New Zealand. If you can survive that difficult period you can capitalise later on when the ball gets older.

England assistant coach Paul Collingwood, speaking to TMS: "It was another entertaining day of Test cricket. We started well then we saw a counter-attack from Pant later in the day.

"He is certainly entertaining, doesn't take a backward step and he puts you under pressure. He's got a great eye, he's shown that before. We looked to take wickets, had attacking fields and I think it's been a pretty even day.

"The guys are confident they can chase down no matter what in the fourth innings. We're not scared of conceding a big first-innings total, we showed that at Trent Bridge. After day one, it looks like we've got another good game.

"We have been clear how we want to play. Test cricket is a great form of the game and for it to survive, it has to be entertaining. We know we have to soak up pressure at times but I'd rather be on the more aggressive side of the line.

"Once the ball gets 30-40 overs old it gets quite soft and it gets easier to bat on these wickets. It's been the same rhythm throughout the summer. But as I say, I think it's been a pretty even day and if we can bowl them out for 360-370, we will be happy enough."

This innings was a little different from the others by Rishabh Pant. There were a lot of shots down the ground. Very rarely you saw him hack across the line and play unorthodox shots other than that reverse-sweep. It was a very mature innings. I think after today, he'll realise that he doesn't need to do anything too unorthodox to get runs. This is the best I've seen him bat. I hope this innings gives him the confidence to bat more orthodox and score runs.

The other thing is that he's also taking responsibility. He's the vice-captain of the side and that responsibility has made him play with a bit more caution. His shot selection was spot-on and I think he puts on that responsibility upon himself. I think he puts pressure on himself to perform under those circumstances.

If you get a chance to see the highlights tonight, take it. I realise it's a Friday and there may well be some more tempting offers but Rishabh Pant's innings really is fantastic viewing.

It was the right decision to put an Indian team short of preparation in on the first morning. Grab a few early wickets and put them under pressure. James Anderson and Stuart Broad are a handful and will test your technique around the top of off stump.

So undoubtedly playing a lot of short format cricket and then facing some of the bowlers England possess was a challenge. I thought Pujara looked in good nick, probably because he has played more red ball cricket than some of the others

But once the ball gets older, your white ball players suddenly can really influence the game and play with freedom and aggression, taking the game by the scruff of the neck. We saw that with Pant.

I think England could have been a bit more flexible when the Pant-Jadeja partnership was gathering momentum.

It was an aggressive field, which I love. But there is always a part to play in just sitting back and saying 'go on, you make the mistake'.

Jonathan Bergdahl: Stuart Broad, 15 overs bowled, no wickets. Joe Root, three overs bowled, a wicket. Cricket - it's a funny old game.

It feels like India's day, but England's batting in the past three Tests gives this score a slightly different perspective.

It's been another fantastic day of Test cricket.

England will be wandering off a bit battered and bruised but sometimes you have to doff your hat to the opposition and say well played. That partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ravindra Jadeja was wonderful to watch.
