All times stated are UK

  1. Superchargers 23-0

Back-to-back sixes from Lyth! Brilliant from the Superchargers left-hander.

He flays the first one high over backward point as Topley offers some width and then seems to mistime the next... but it sails back over the bowler's head and still comfortably clears the rope!

  2. Post update

    Phil Tufnell

Former England spinner on BBC Two

What a shot that is. One of the toughest shots in the book but Faf du Plessis made it look very easy.

  3. Superchargers 11-0

Super shot from Du Plessis. He gives himself room and hits it over extra cover - all the way for six!

That is some shot, brilliantly timed to end the set.

  4. Post update

    Phil Tufnell

Former England spinner on BBC Two

Hilton Cartwright will be disappointed with that as he had done all the hard work in getting there.

  5. Adam Lyth dropped on 1

    Superchargers 4-0

Danny Briggs bowls the next set and Adam Lyth tries to get after him straightaway.

He is down the track to the left-arm spinner and flicks the ball into the leg side, Hilton Cartwright was out and came running around, made his ground but couldn't cling on as he dived forward.

It would have been a brilliant catch.

  6. Post update

    Tash Farrant

    England bowler on BBC Two

Faf du Plessis plays all around the world so he knows in the shorter formats it is not going to come off every game. So I am sure he will still have his confidence to go out there and lead from the front.

  7. Post update

    Alison Mitchell

    Cricket Commentator

Those opening five balls have gone super quickly. Reece Topley will be very pleased with that result.

  8. Superchargers 1-0

Superb from Topley, only a single from his first five. Lyth nudged that into the leg side and try as Faf du Plessis might, he can't get any of the last three away.

Play and a miss to end the set.

  9. Post update

    Stephan Shemilt

BBC Sport chief cricket writer at Kia Oval

Just for the avoidance of doubt, it's hot. The outdoor press seats at The Oval have us close to the pyro on the boundary edge, which make it even hotter. If anyone at the ECB is reading, I reckon it might be worth turning those off today...

  10. Superchargers 0-0

Good start from Reece Topley, who is having a fabulous summer so far.

The big left-armer is on the money and Adam Lyth can only defend the ball back to him.

  11. Post update

That battle will have to wait, though. It is the Superchargers batting first and openers Adam Lyth and Faf du Plessis have made it to the middle.

Reece Topley will bowl the first set for the Invincibles. We're ready to go!

  12. Today's key match-up: Roy v Wiese

You might have heard that Jason Roy isn't in the best of form. The opener had a tough time of it with England against India and South Africa and, so far, it has been a similar story in The Hundred with scores of 0 and 10.

Kevin Pietersen came to his defence after his latest failing and Oval Invincibles have backed the 32-year-old again, making him captain today in Sam Billings' absence. Will the added responsibility help jolt Roy back into form?

Trying to prevent that will be David Wiese. With David Willey and Matthews Potts both missing, the experienced all-rounder is likely to be tasked with taking the new ball.

He might be yet to take a wicket in this year's tournament but the former South Africa international has all the savvy to make like difficult for Roy first up.

  13. Post update

    Melissa Story

    BBC Test Match Special

This Oval Invincibles squad is packed full of talent though a lot of focus today will be on Jason Roy, who needs to get some runs and some form.

  14. Post update

If you want an idea of just how warm it is at The Oval, Carlos Brathwaite has asked for a Caribbean breeze to be imported because it is so hot.

So yeah, it is a scorcher!

  15. The teams

Oval Invincibles: Jason Roy (c), Rilee Rossouw, Jordan Cox (wk), Sam Curran, Hilton Cartwright, Jack Haynes, Sunil Narine, Tom Curran, Reece Topley, Matt Milnes, Danny Briggs.

Northern Superchargers: Adam Lyth, Faf du Plessis (c), Michael Pepper, Adam Hose, John Simpson (wk), David Wiese, Dwayne Bravo, Roelof van der Merwe, Ben Raine, Adil Rashid, Craig Miles.

  16. Post update

Northern Superchargers captain Faf du Plessis, speaking on Sky: "We'd have done the same, it looks like there is some grass on the wicket. Probably the most grass I've seen on The Oval wicket in all my time coming here.

"Generally it's good wickets here so hopefully it's a good game today.

"Early tournament you're always trying to find out want is your best balance. We've got one forced change today with Matthews Potts joining up with the England team."

  17. Post update

Oval Invincibles captain Jason Roy, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm pretty excited about it [captaining the side for the first time] and I have a good group of boys around me so it will be fun.

"There's loads of positive signs. We reacted well down at Welsh Fire, we played a hell of a game there so I'm excited to see what the boys can do today.

"It's a brand new surface. We are going to have a bowl first and with the shorter side hopefully chasing will be a bit easier.

"Home support is always brilliant. The crowds are leaking in at the moment so excited to see this place bouncing."

  18. Invincibles win toss and bowl

Faf du Plessis calls wrong at the coin toss and stand-in Invincibles skipper Jason Roy opts to bowl.

A number of changes for the Invincibles with Sam Billings and Will Jacks among those missing, they're on England Lions duty. In come Hilton Cartwright, Jack Haynes and Reece Topley.

Just one change for the Superchargers, as Matthew Potts has joined up with England and Craig Miles comes in.

  19. Welcome!

We're a week into The Hundred and, much like the weather in the UK, things are really hotting up with the first double-header of this year's tournament between Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers.

The women's competition begins later but first up, braving the mid-afternoon sun, is the men's clash.

Both sides have won one, lost one so far and have the chance to move level with leaders London Spirit. Who will be able to handle the heat and put themselves in the mix at the top of the table?
