  1. Hales stars as Rockets crush Invincibles

Alex Hales continued his excellent form with the bat as he smashed 59 from 29 balls to set up Trent Rockets' victory over Oval Invincibles.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat, Rockets scored a mighty 181, Hales and Dawid Malan adding 84 for the first wicket.

England opener Jason Roy's struggles continued for the Invincibles as he made just 20 off 17 balls, albeit his highest score of The Hundred so far.

Jordan Cox hit an entertaining 61 from 33 balls but the visitors lost wickets regularly and fell 25 runs short.

The win takes Trent Rockets to joint top of the Hundred table, tied with London Spirit who have played one fewer game.

    Here's what also happened:

    • Hales and Malan continued to establish themselves as the most fearsome opening partnership in The Hundred as Malan's 38 from 29 balls made him the leading run-scorer so far.
    • Lewis Gregory struck 24 not out from 12 balls and Colin Munro an unbeaten 23 from 13 balls to propel Rockets to their match-winning total.
    • Tabraiz Shamsi starred with the ball for Trent Rockets, taking 2-21 as the Invincibles' batters failed to fire.

    What's next?

Trent Rockets host unbeaten London Spirit at Trent Bridge in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday 20 August, while Oval Invincibles host Birmingham Phoenix on Tuesday 23 August.

  2. Post update

Trent Rockets' Alex Hales on Sky Sports: "I’m really pleased to put on a good performance in front of our home crowd, especially after the disappointment against Birmingham.

"We [him and Dawid Malan] just want to keep being aggressive and the way he's going about it from ball has been really impressive and the partnership has blossomed.

"That was a huge game for us. There are four teams that really close on points and to get a home win is great."

  3. Post update

Some interesting quotes from ex-England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan, now a pundit on Sky Sports, on whether Alex Hales could be contention for England's T20 side for the World Cup later this year.

Morgan said: "The one thing about Alex is his quality has never been a question. But it's whether the captain and coach would like him and trust him. Rob Key says he's in contention for selection so he goes into a pool of players alongside Will Jacks, Will Smeed and others."

When he was captain of England's limited-overs side Morgan spoke about a "breakdown of trust" with Hales in the wake of some off-the-field issues.

We'll hear from Hales himself shortly.

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Radio

For me, London Spirit are still the team to beat with Trent Rockets are not far off.

  5. Post update

Trent Rockets will want to brush up on their fielding mind... A few catches went down.

  6. Post update

Yes, brilliant from Alex Hales a little earlier.

He's quite the batter in the shorter format of the game isn't he?

  7. Post update

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Radio

Good win for Trent Rockets. It was an all-round performance from the home side with Alex Hales leading from the top. Tabraiz Shamsi bowled really well.

  8. Trent Rockets win

Luke Wood is able to land two legal deliveries and Trent Rockets win the game with ease.

Jordan Cox finishes on 61 not out - the top score of the night but he did not get too much support.

  9. WICKET

    Narine c & b Wood 23 (Invincibles 154-5)

If nobody else can hold on, take 'em yourself eh Luke?

Sunil Narine sends it skywards and the ball comes down with snow on. Wood, however, comfortably claims it.

  10. Post update

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Radio

That's been the difference between the two sides. There has been no one to bat around Cox from the top order.

  11. Post update

    Alison Mitchell

    BBC Radio commentator

Good individual innings from Cox, especially when there hasn't been much around him.

  12. Fifty for Cox

A heave into the leg side by Jordan Cook, off Sam Cook, brings him a half-century.

He follows it up a couple of balls later with carbon copy shot.

A crumb of comfort for the Invincibles batter.

  13. Post update

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Radio

The Oval Invincibles will want to get as many because later on you never know with net run rate.

  14. Invincinbles 139-4

Trent Rockets have been sloppy in the field tonight.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore races round and then let's the ball go through his legs and into the boundary for Sunil Narine.

  15. Post update

    Alison Mitchell

    BBC Radio commentator

Very few Oval Invincibles fans out there in the ground, they'll hope the team can end this with a flurry.

  16. Post update

  17. Invincibles 133-4

Jordan Cox with a glorious lofted drive off Daniel Sams' final ball of that set takes him to 45.

  18. Post update

    Alison Mitchell

    BBC Radio commentator

It's been a good night for Trent Rockets so far. They have had a couple of drop catches, and will want to improve on that as the tournament goes on.

  19. Invincibles 128-4

Jordan Cox is up to 41 off 27 balls. He'll have his eye on an half-century - although it will feel relatively meaningless in what looks to be a thumping defeat.

Both sides going through the motions.
