It may not have gone his way tonight, but how things have changed in the space of a year for Luke Littler.
This time 12 months ago, he needed to come through a qualifying tournament to book his place in the 2023 UK Open.
Then aged 16, Littler won three matches in the main draw to reach the last 64, where he lost to eventual semi-finalist Adam Gawlas.
More than 150 players will be hoping to lift the UK Open trophy in Minehead on Sunday, including all eight who are involved in tonight's Premier League event in Exeter.

One win turns it around and you feel part of it and that has turned into a runner-up last week and a winner tonight. Nathan Aspinall was good under pressure tonight.
Rob Cross missed some doubles in the final but you need that little bit of luck.
You've got to be good enough often enough to win games in the Premier League and Aspinall was excellent tonight.

I made the decision tonight to forget about double 16 because I miss it so many times so I went for double tops, and I missed it a few times, but I hit it more times than not. I'm just very happy. The last few weeks I've really dug deep. Everybody knows I'm a fighter and I've been down in the first three weeks but a final and a win in the past two weeks, I'm over the moon.
"I was doubting myself, massively. Me and Peter [Wright] were getting a lot of criticism on social media for being put in the Premier League, and you know what I'm like, I like proving people wrong. That was my plan and it didn't start off like that. I was a bit down in the dumps but I think I've shown my fighting spirit in the past two weeks. Granted, I haven't performed at the level that I know I'm capable of, but I dug deep last week and tonight was the same. The win last week against Michael Smith has kickstarted my season.
"I know it has been my finishing. I know that when I'm on it nobody can touch me with my scoring, it is ridiculous. I am not a guy who averages 28% over seven games on doubling, why is that happening? I looked at it and double 16 wasn't happening for me. I've played on that for probably the last 10 years of my career. I changed it up. That has been the key moment.
"It has been so tough. This game is really, really hard. I have been struggling with form and I am in the hardest tournament that there is in our sport. I've been fighting with my own game but you've seen over the past two weeks that I am a fighter. I love this game and I love this opportunity I've been given by the PDC.
"The Premier League is so tight. It is so close. Even Peter, he's playing well again. It's going to come down to the odd leg and night. We are the best eight players in the world and we are proving it. The standard every week is exceptional."
