Supporting your friends online

People can often feel lonely if they're being bullied online, which is why it’s important that you stand up for your friends.

If someone was being mean to one of your friends in the playground, you would tell them to stop, right? And if they kept being nasty, you would tell the teacher, or a trusted adult, wouldn’t you? So why not do the same when it comes to life online?

Whether it’s a negative comment under a post, an embarrassing picture sent to the group chat or a nasty voice note, make sure you always stand up for your friends and if one of your classmates is being picked on, don’t be a bystander. Send them an encouraging message, let them know you are there for them - you'll be surprised how much good a kind word can do!

If the situation gets worse and you see something worrying online, just tell a trusted adult about it.

Remember, if you or your friends are being bullied online, there is support out there. It's always worth speaking to a trusted adult, or if you aren't sure who to speak to or need help urgently, you can call Childline on 0800 11 11 any time of day.
