Nine goals, bucketloads of drama and four-time champions Germany are out of the World Cup.
You can read all about Japan's extraordinary comeback against Spain to top Group E and how Germany crashed out of the tournament despite winning 4-2 against Costa Rica.
Or of course you can just watch how a remarkable night unfolded below.
For Costa Rica, they have had some rollercoaster of a World Cup. I have to say, I have a special place in my heart for them now because they were pumped 7-0 by Spain in that first game, their World Cup could have crumbled. I think they did so well, to come back, to beat Japan in teh secoind match, to be leading against Germany.
Let's not forget, to put that into context. Costa Rica is a country of five million people. The other three teams in the group, Spain, Germany and Japan, that's a quarter of a billion population.
The fact that they have been able to hold their head high and be involved in the drama, sure they end up bottom of the group but they ruffled a few feathers and contributed to Germany's downfall along the way.

Germany's exit an 'absolute catastrophe' - Muller

Germany forward Thomas Muller says his country's exit from the World Cup at the group stage for the second tournament in a row on Thursday is an "absolute catastrophe".
The Germans beat Costa Rica 4-2 but Spain's 2-1 defeat to Japan that meant Germany finished third in Group E behind Spain, with the teams equal on four points and the positions decided only by goal difference.
"It is unbelievably bitter for us because our result would have been enough," Muller said.
"It's a feeling of powerlessness."

Prior to kick-off Germany coach Hansi Flick laughed off suggestions he could lose his job if his team were eliminated from the World Cup this evening.
But he's sure to face some searching questions from the German media and the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Ilkay Gundogan are all the wrong side of 30.
Could this latest failure on the biggest stage of all see a changing of the guard?

At least there is a home Euros in 2024 for Germany to look forward to. By then this ensemble may be back in vogue.
Not sure I'd want to be seen around Al Khor in it tonight though.

All credit to Japan, they have been absolutely outstanding. It was strange that they lost to Costa Rica in the manner that they did but they put the ball in the back of the net when it mattered.
When it counted they made the effective changes, they took advantage of most of the chances that they had. There's a lot to be said for being disciplined and structured and understanding your game plan and executing it as best as you can.
That methodology and approach throughout the group stage has seen them through to the knock out rounds.
The Japan defeat is the key one because you look at Germany's World Cup here, the win against Costa Rica was expected. The draw against Spain is not the end of the world. Where they have come undone is the defeat against Japan.
I think the post-mortem will be underway for Germany and they will be talking about if that ball had been deemed to be have gone over the line before it come back in for Japan, that one goal would have made so much difference.
They might still be in the World Cup now, Germany, if it had not been for that decision so there will be a lot of talk about curvature of the ball over the line and view from above and all of these kind of things.
Germany should never had put themselves in this position in the first place. If they had got the job done against Japan, if they had seen that out, they would not have had to endure the drama and ultimately the humiliation tonight.

A good way to show how a ball can look out of play from one perspective, but another shows that not all of the ball has crossed the line - i.e the curvature.
Since detailed World Cup records began in 1966, there are only two instances of a team losing a game despite attempting 700+ passes:

Germany didn't deserve to go through. There were moments of beautiful football but ultimately they haven't been consistent through the group stages.
