"People have paid money to come over and watch, and it ends like that... it's embarrassing.

"We have to accept it. We have to take it. It's back to the bread and butter at the weekend."

  5. 'It's a sore, sore night' - Ross

FT: AZ Alkmaar 7-0 Dundee Utd (agg 7-1)

Dundee United boss Jack Ross tells BBC Scotland: "For every plaudit we received last Thursday, we deserve every bit of criticism we get on the back of that.

"We conceded six goals in 26 minutes. That's not good irrespective of the opponent. It was a tough, tough night for us.

"All the discipline we showed in our play last week, we didn't do as well. We didn't deal with the period of adversity well. The goals from our point of view were poor. It's a sore, sore night.

"The players should feel sore, I feel sore. It's not a night for excuses, it's a night for realism."

FT: AZ Alkmaar 7-0 Dundee Utd (agg 7-1)

A week after everyone rightly waxing lyrical about United, they will now have to deal with the waves of criticism that will come their way.

It's the fickle nature of football, but Jack Ross and his side need to dust themselves down quickly.

The Tannadice club have just one point from their opening two league games and face a trip to Tynecastle on Sunday. Not easy.

  13. FULL-TIME: AZ Alkmaar 7-0 Dundee Utd (agg 7-1)

    A chastening night for United.
