  2. 'The rut started with Ronaldo's arrival'

We asked you the one change you'd like to see take place at Manchester United that will make the biggest difference moving forward.

Here are some of your replies:

Gordon: Get rid of Ronaldo. He is a great player but without him United can move forward. Before he came the players we had were a good team and can be again with good management. The rut started with Ronaldo's arrival.

Matt: The back four and David De Gea need to stop trying to play it out from the back. This means the midfielders will have to come and get it and move it up the pitch with confidence and speed. The front three need to be constantly moving but they are statues at the moment. We're far too easy to defend against and providing very few options for the midfielders.

Pat: I would like to see the team playing with confidence and speed and for the players to use their brains.

Simon: Harry Maguire has to be replaced as captain, because he does not deserve an automatic place in the team. He displays no discernible leadership qualities, dithers on the ball and is totally devoid of pace. Unfortunately, l am struggling to recommend a suitable replacement but Christian Eriksen, who has impressed so far, may be the answer.

Will: Glazers out, sell Ronaldo and play the youth.

  3. Will Ronaldo stay despite 'annoying' hints at future?

Cristiano Ronaldo will likely end up staying at Manchester United, despite the forward's recent "embarrassing" and "annoying" hints about his future, says Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.

Ronaldo, who this week commented on an Instagram post to state that many of the stories written about him are "lies", has been linked with a move back to his native Portugal, to the club where his career started - Sporting Lisbon.

"It is a good thing that somebody has expressed a desire in signing him, because it was getting a bit embarrassing for the self-proclaimed 'GOAT'," Edwards told the BBC's Transfer Gossip Daily podcast.

"In normal circumstances, I would quite like this transfer. He started his career at Sporting Lisbon, he is going back to Portugal having left as a teenager. But Cristiano Ronaldo is doing my head in.

"He released this ridiculous statement saying that he had a notebook in which he has been noting down all the stories written about him every day. As if he is doing that? So he goes home at night, Googles his name and then writes them all down.

"He says only five of the stories have been true. Let's get it straight - he could have said he wanted to leave at the end of last season and didn't. His behaviour and body language in the two games in which he has featured this season have been atrocious.

"He then says in two weeks' time I am going to tell the truth. Why not do it now? What happens in two weeks' time? The transfer window shuts. So then he is going to know where he is. Tell us the truth now. The whole thing is annoying.

"I still think he will stay at Manchester United."

  4. Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave but where would he go?

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't have an obvious next destination as he considers his Manchester United future, according to the BBC Radio 5 Live Euro Leagues podcast team.

Julien Laurens, Guillem Balague and Raphael Honigstein have been considering Ronaldo's future - with the prolific forward having made it no secret that he wants to leave Old Trafford to play in the Champions League.

United, having expressed concerns about how the 37-year-old forward's mood is affecting morale in the camp, are ready to let him go.

And Balague told the Euro Leagues podcast that "there are a bunch of reasons he should not be at United".

  5. Gakpo or Carrasco?

    Manchester United

Given their disastrous start to the season and the fact that we're less than two weeks away from the window closing, it's no surprise to see Manchester United featuring prominently in the gossip.

    Here's two more nuggets:

    • PSV Eindhoven will not entertain a bid from Manchester United for the Netherlands attacker Cody Gakpo, 23, until after their Champions League play-off second leg at home to Rangers on 24 August. (MailOnline)
    • United are considering a £25m move for Atletico Madrid's Belgium forward Yannick Carrasco, 28. (Telegraph - subscription required)

United fans, who would you prefer to see at Old Trafford? Hit the thumbs up for Gakpo, or down for Carrasco.

  6. 'It is Man Utd all over'

Guests on BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro League podcast have been discussing Manchester United's move for Casemiro and the issues it poses.

The 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder would become one of the club's top earners if he decided to join the side currently bottom of the Premier League after two matches.

"It is a surprise move first of all," said Guillem Balague.

"If you think of football reasons for it, do you want a holding midfielder that lives on the edge of the box much more comfortably than in open spaces when actually your manager wants to pressure high and dynamism and quick transitions? I’m not sure Casemiro is your man.

"And yet after the defeat against Brentford, a call was made to Real Madrid and to Casemiro. There have been meetings and the stage we’re in is that conversations are progressing.

"I think Manchester United are surprised the doors are open from Real Madrid that will accept 70m euros and from Casemiro who will double his wages. It will give him two more years on his contract from 2025 to 2027 – he’s 30 years old.

"It’s Manchester United all over isn’t it this story?"

Raphael Honigstein added: "I think you can be reactive and still make a good signing so I wouldn’t hold it against them that they’ve started this late and that they have done this maybe in reaction to defeat.

"But my question is the same as Guillem’s – where does he fit in? If you play two midfielders and then a number 10 in front, you can’t have somebody who is out and out destructive if you are Manchester United. At Real Madrid it’s a different set-up.

"It does solve part of the problem, but it doesn’t really address the biggest issue which is what do you do with the ball when you have it? How do you progress it? How do you keep that rhythm that United don’t seem to have in midfield?

"As a player you can’t argue against his quality, he will help. But as far as helping Ten Hag with his vision of how this team wants to play and having a set-up that works collectively, it does pose a few questions".

What do you make of United's move for Casemiro? Would he be a good fit under Erik ten Hag? Have your say here
