A Bristol pub famed for its roast dinners - and the waiting list to book one - is helping to stage a real ale and shanty festival to raise money for charity. The Bank Tavern will be raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust and other local charities on May 11 and 12, when The Freemasons Hall on Park Street will play host to the Real Ale and Shanty Festival.

The two-day event, which has been organised by The Port of Bristol Shanty Crew, will involve more than 12 different shanty crews from across the South West and Wales. There will be more than 20 ales from some of the best breweries across the region and a small selection of local ciders, all of which have been hand picked by Sam Gregory of The Bank Tavern - as well as non alcoholic drinks.

TV chef Freddy Bird, who is known for his Bristol restaurants Little French and 1 York Place, will be supplying food for the event. On the menu are his Buxton & Bird pies.
