I’ve had really caring bosses. And I’ve had bosses that made me feel so unsure of my abilities that I should probably quit. You know the script… - Constantly wondering if you’re doing a good job. - Not feeling able to voice how you feel in case it gets shut down. - Feeling and thinking that you’re just not any good at this thing and won’t ever get any better. Then, I’ve been made to feel the opposite. Like my thoughts and feelings matter. Like I’m allowed to be wrong, fail and try. Like I’m supported and encouraged to try again. Safe. That stuff doesn’t happen by mistake. That’s somebody above/ around you, creating an environment for your growth to happen. And people that take responsibility for that to happen are the reason why we stay and grow in the businesses we work for. I wish I could say that the days of corporate gaslighting are over. And I wish I could say that every leader thought the way that Toby does, but that’s just not the case… yet. But it should be. And you should expect that level of nurture from every place you work at. ~Even~ ESPECIALLY if its mission and ambitions are wild. I’ve asked the same question to every guest that I’ve had on untalented at the beginning… and I think this might be my favourite answer yet.
Love this Ollie Scott & Toby … inspiring and motivating others is a privilege- and being the person that constantly looks out for others and their development and happiness. Love it.
managers can make or break an employee, but they can also make or break a person
A powerful reflection on the impact of nurturing leadership. Creating environments where employees feel valued and supported is crucial for growth and success. Inspiring message.
